Living on the south coast (Southampton to be precise) there is an awful lot of sea, the other day (boxing day) I saw this rather large beast out of a friends 5th floor apartment window, QM2 had arrived with hundreds of onlookers greeting it in. The sheer size of it is unbelievable, how does that thing float? (No need to explain the Physics thank you, been there done that) It really is impresive!!

17 decks

over 1100ft long

230ft high

tonnage 150,000

Anything impresive in your area??

They've just opened a new by-pass where i live, in the photo you can see the huge mobile cranes they brought in to lift the steelwork for the viaduct they've had to build. I live about 500yds from where this photo was taken.

Barry.

I now travel to work over the viaduct.

Well much as I hate them ! :gdit:

Pompous bunch of tossers, I have to admit they are good.

Only problem is they dump their toxic (Diesel and Dye) fumes all over Lincoln 5 times a day when practising. :gdit: :gdit:

We have strict regulations on car emmisions but these lot are gassing us all.

Roll on the display season as they bugger off and polute somewhere else then

:D :D

I went on a cruise holiday last year in the Med, and the ship we were on was the biggest in the Med at teh time (I believe). It was huge and had bars everywhere. I even won 500 Euros (£300) in the casino. I don't think it is as big as the QM, but you can see a piccie here - that little green square at the top front is a tennis court!

It is not the most impressive thing I have ever seen though. That accolade goes to being present at an airshow in the 80's when the Vulcan came and did its display. My God. Nothing will ever compare to that. I know there is a group of people trying to get it back in the air and into the display season. If you have never seen it, and they do get it going again, make a point of going to see it. You won't regret it.

I suppose you remember them flying around the Lincoln skies too, Bill?

I was at Marham in Norfolk when the last flying one flew round all the camps to say farewell, very impressive too.

I was at Finningly in the late 70s when they all did a scramble and all buggered off at once, that made the ground shake.

When I was on my last tour at Waddington Lincs. We had to look after the gate guard Vulcan it was a bit mouldy inside, we often had the blokes from Bruntingthorpe who are restoring that one come over and "Borrow" bits, they invited us to theirs for a day its a really interesting place.

The Vulcan, loads of other aircraft and loads of crashed bent and buckled supercars.

Shame the lottery would not fund the restoration

I remember bout 4 yrs ago, there was some rememberance on the south coast to do with the 2nd world war, there were loads of both british and american planes flying the skies, such as lancaster's, F-15's, Tornado's, Jaguar's, Harrier's, Spitfires, Hurricanes there was a massive fly-by right over my garden for about 45mins, all these different planes, it was amazing! Me and a mate decided to go to the lea-on-solent (the sea) where the service was being held, and present was an almight US aircraft carrier. That thing is big!!

I have seen the QMII quite a few times now, I saw her come in (I was stood on the beach at ryde - almost got cut off), I have been past a fair few times when she was moored in southampton as I go over there regularly on the redjet (a ferry for those of u who have no idea, although it is actually an extortion racket, but work pay for it  )

There is (or was) a magic roundabout in Hemel Hempstead too, I think it has 6 minis and I thought that was the first one, must have been a similar date. A friend used to go on it to and from work and spent lots of time working out all different routes around it. :)
