Series 2 – How do I know that I've adjusted the tie rods properly before I check the wheel alignment.

If you look directly down from over the top of the suspension, the bottom sierra radius arm should look slightly in front of the top ball joint. They can be checked by gauges etc. if you know anyone who has them, and can use them! but I've done it this way (by eye) and it feels OK to me, with no nasties or poor tyre wear.
