Engine Mounts

Hi, I've a Series III fitted with a 2 lire Pinto - but its eating engine mounts! - when fitted, the mounts are under a lot of strain and crack/giveup very easily - I do low mileage but have been through two sets in the last two years - anybody any ideas on how to relieve the pressure on them? - I had thought about swapping the mounting arms around as I think this might make a difference..

thanks..........

It sounds more as though the position of the mounts is wrong, the mounting arms should just drop straight on to them. There should be no lateral strain on the mounts.

Where abouts are you btw? If you fill in the details in your profile I expect someone would pop around to drink your tea and advise you!

As its a series 3,I would find all the bolts that hold the "sledges" in position

remove them.....then ensure that engine mounts go on without being

stressed, then redrill the holes for the bolts.

By the way the sledges, are the plates that have the boxes ,which have the engine

mounts bolted to them, the plates are held by bolts in the engine bay,and inside

each footwell just behind the bulkhead.

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers Ian
