How To Attach Clutch And Accel Cables To Lightweight Pedals?

Hi,

My Lightweight pedals come with a 10mm hole drilled in the top of one, 6mm hole in the other and the accel pedal has a slot cut into the top of the rod. It looks like there was some plan in mind for attaching, but the DVDs say nothing about how to do this. Looking at the Zero, it seems that the system is pretty similar, so can anyone help, please??

I bought a Granada clutch cable which has a long enough outer to miss the exhaust manifold, so now I just need to cut the cable to length and attach it to the pedal somehow, presumably using the 10mm hole. I thought I could just drill a hole in a 10mm bolt, pass the cable through, stick the bolt through the pedal hole and clamp it up, but doesn't sound good enough for IVA to me. Any ideas, please? :D

I expect that I can put a clevis and pin arrangement on the brake master cylinder rod and attach through the 6mm pedal hole, so that should be straightforward?

The accel pedal is too short at the top. I would need huge movement of the pedal to get the cable to move enough to open the throttle butterfly, so I intend to extend the top rod by sleeving a tube over the end. I've got a Sierra throttle cable, but again it's too long and would need to be adjusted, so I'm looking for inspiration on how to attach

Cheers,

hi pete

re the clutch i used a capri cable as it has an end that can be bolted to the pedle its long enought as well ,

i think as i recall i had to make a tube spacer for the gearbox end to take up the slack so as not to cut it .

re the brakes yes a bar and clevis pin , might not be the right way but i used a threded bar and rounded the end to fit the master , it gives you room to alter as you go along .

re the throttle , as i remember on the lightweight as it was then i ran 45dcoes and the stroke of the pedle pretty much matched the carbs , i used i think an escort mk2 t/ cable cut the end off at the carb end and clamped it and at the pedle end made a support for the ball type end to the peddle .

i have since changed to floor mounted so memory may be a bit suss .

if you want to ring me i think you have my no .

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the tips. I already bought the Granada cable, but I'm interested in this Capri cable. Have you got a part number and/or picture? Every clutch cable I looked at just had the usual crimped end. How long is it between mounting points on the outer sheath, I need about 970mm? Any shorter and it will touch the exhaust, any longer and it will touch the alternator, so has to be bang on! Although if it's shorter, the tube spacer would help.

Have you got any pics of your throttle cable attachment before you went floor mounted?? Cheers :good:

Any Zero builders got advice? I reckon that pedal arrangement is very similar to mine...

Just spoke to Richard at GBS and he told me to use an electrical connector like one from this, to hold the accel cable in place. Is that what Zero builders have been doing? Anyone passed the IVA with that?

He said to use a Mk2 Escort clutch cable like this , as it has an eye on the end. Is your Capri cable like that, Graham?

Cheers,

I have drilled the cluch pedeal and added a M8 bolt through the pedeal then added 2 locking nuts with a hole drilled through the bolt between the two nuts thread cable through hole in bolt and clamp with two nuts. The bolt lets the cable pivot as pulled.

hi stephen

pretty much same as me .

pete it looks like it will do as the peddle end looks the same as the capri one .

re the throttle my end is a cup type end and ihave added to the paddle a ball to sit it in and a clip off a mk2 escort carb linckage to hold it in place .

re the connector i dont think iva would have a prob with it , but alternativly bq i think do very small clamps like an ex clamp but much smaller that you could use to secure the end .
