Spare Wheel Frame On 2b

HI All

The rear hoop at the back of the 2b which holds the spare wheel, has anyone removed this?

I was looking at petrie51 test photo's and noticed he had his number plate/lamp on the back of the car not on the bottom frame. why not cut the frame off.

I've thought about it due to cosmetic reason's and to enable me to get some diff alloy's off ebay. As they come mainly in four's. rareley with 5 and tyre's.

What you all reckon

The hoop and spare wheel give a little extra protection in a rear end shunt and give extra load space for camping gear etc

Couldn't agree more.

Remember that the fuel tank is directly behind this. Keeping the hoop and putting a spare wheel on it will take the force of a rear end impact and spread it onto the top chassis rail, and onto the diff and rear axle at the back. This would happen BEFORE the rear panel or the fuel tank is damaged.

Mine has been cut off. The car looks better without the spare wheel on the back, and without the spare wheel the loop looks odd.

It is cut off flush with the rear panel and has plastic plugs in the ends.

For the event of a puncture I carry a can of 'sealer / inflator' from Halfords.

I don't have a digital photo of the back since removal of the spare wheel and hoop.

However, I have just finished fitting the hood and sidescreens, it is therefore time for some more photo's and will include the hoop (that isn't there).

I will post as soon as I have taken the pic's.

Even though my beast is not on the road yet, eveyone who comes round to visit it, stands on the back of the car, feet on spare wheel hoop holding onto the roll bar saying "this is a good design feature". :p

I am sure that when the car is on the road this will continue as it does provide a fairly amusing risk of falling off, and the ability to "carry" a third passenger. :D

Of course i cannot condone this behaviour and activeley discourage such actions, although i cannot guarantee i will not try it at some stage!!!!! B) :p :D

 roger 2b,i used that tyre weld stuff when i had a 1200 bandit motor cycle, and ill never use it again, dont get me wrong it works but after you have to buy a new tyre,as punctures cannot be repaired on the tyre due to the chemical reaction it does on the inside of the tyre

Chris, wasn't your's at jigtec?, didn't take much notice of rear as it was up on the lift's, it look's nice in the photo though.

Roger, when you stand at the back can you see where you've put the bung's. Waiting in antisipation for photo's :p :D
