Diff Swap Problem

I want to swap my 3.92 diff for a 3.62 to give lower revs when travelling long distances. I have sourced a 3.62 diff at a good price and tried to change it this weekend, but when I got my old diff out I found that my replacement diff had smaller diameter push in driveshaft splines. Does anyone know if I could swap the crownwheel and pinion parts of one diff with the other? Has anyone got instructions for dismantling the diff? Should I even attempt it?

Not sure what you're thinking there alan, 3.9 diff is very common, the bike boys prefer the rarer 3.14/3.38.

I think it's possible to do it yourself. I had a look at the official ford instructions for rebuilding a diff and it made my eyes bleed. The amount of specialist equipment needed to set it up was horrifying.

I've uploaded it here
