Oil Filter To Big

Just went to put the top steering shaft back and the oil filter is to big and gets in the way of the shaft. Been down to Halfords to get a shorter one and Ford dont do one for the Zetec. Can you put on a shorter one fromm another make thasts the same thread?

I use a Champion C104 oil filter which is a perfect fit, same thread and base diameter, and about half the size of the zetec one.
