Donor Advice Needed

Hi,

The 2B kit is designed to use a Sierra fitted with a Pinto engine as the donor.

A 2.0 litre engine will be of two types :

Pinto - Single overhead camshaft and exhaust manifold is on the driver's side - normally fitted up to F or G reg

DOHC - Double OHC exhaust manifold on passenger's side - G reg and later

2B's have been built with DOHC unit but it is not straight forward - you will need a different exhaust set up and the brake master cylinder will need to be fitted on the passengers side using Fiesta / Escort cross shaft system.

Robin Hood have made a different chassis to use the DOHC engine & gearbox but I'm not sure that it is still available.

If you plan to use the donor vehicle wiring harness the higher the spec of the car the more spare circuits you will need to remove.

The fuel injection system fitted to the Pinto engine can be incorporated - you may need to put a bulge in the bonnet or modify the air intake chamber.

There is quite a good search feature on this site - try DOHC and see what comes up.

Everything else should be OK

I'm not sure what gearbox will be fitted. If reverse is up and on the left (next to first), then this is a type 9 which is what you want

Couple of years ago I changed a mates CVH engined sierra to 2L OHC and it was a straight swop. Standard type nine gearbox 5 speed, release bearing and bellhousing were in the 1.8. Engine, clutch, pressure plate, mounts and ancillaries from the 2L. Engine 'loom' was a wire to the coil, oil light and temp gauge! Worked a treat.
