Does anyone know where I can get a replacement speedo cable for my Super Spec. The Clocks are Ford and so is the gearbox.

It is very long 2.3meters or 7.5 feet in length.

The Ford agents and my usual parts supplier looked at me like I had gone daft.

Will attach pics of Dash and cable ends.

HELP ME PLEASE.

Thank

Peter

If it's standard Sierra, you're wecome to the one hanging on my workshop wall;can check the length tomorrow.

The Ford agents have told me that there are at least six Siera speedo cables for this car, but the IDLE GITS will not pull one of them to check the length.

Been to three different agents so far, will try some more tomorrow.

What is the length of the one in your workshop, did you get a chance to look?

83 inches total overall length; yours for the price of postage if of any use to you.

Hello Bob

There are only 7" difference in the lengths of these two cables. If I re-route I am sure I can make it fit.

I will contact you via your email.

Thanks

Peter

Hi Pete

Just read your post and was wondering why you needed a new cable? My superspec broke the speedo cable on the first run - cable broke at the tight radius near the gearbox.

My solution was to fit an angle drive (from Speedograph). It cost a lot more than I wanted to pay, but has fixed the problem.

If you're getting quite a lot of miles out of each cable, then probably not necessary for an angle drive, but may be something to bear in mind if you have any future problems.

Cheers

James

With the length of the Sierra cable has to offer the best option is to route it straight out of the gearbox along the floor and up the inner panel on the drivers side then loop it up and keeping the curve as mild as possible connect to the speedo head.

Mine has been like it for 9 years ans 12k miles with no issues.

Hi Ian

On the superspec the gearbox mounting/chassis is very close to the speedo output so a gentle curve is nearly impossible!

Oh well just ignor my rambeling ............. most do

Thats a real shame because on my 2B the tightest curve is about the size of a football.

You might have to go down the 90 angle adaptor then if you want to maintain a good life span for your cable.
