More Iva Odds And Ends

righty ho, planning to have the car finished and paperwork done by the end of this week, ive just got a few odds and ends i was hoping for some help with

1.) does any body know of a steering wheel that will fit the sierra mountney boss, but does not require any additional covers to get through iva? basically im not using the circular mountney horn (that makes up the center of the steering wheel) and subsequenly i have lost it, i was hoping to buy a new complete steering wheel which would not require me to bodge together a foam cover to get passed the ball of doom. i was thinking of something along the lines of this :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAR-STEERING-WHEEL-FIT-COSWORTH-CAPRI-FIESTA-MINI-/170613277495?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27b9580337#ht_4060wt_905

2.) i checked the emmissions of the car yesterday (2.0 zetec on jenvey bodies and emerald ecu) and when the car was up at 90 degrees the CO content was 11.5%....the iva manual says it must be less than 0.3. does any body have a map that is proven to be ok for iva emmissions? if not how can i adjust the emerald map i already have to get the fueling within spec?

3.) i need to make up a chassis number, does the chassis number have to be physically stamped on the chassis (if so where on the chassis have people done this?) or does it need to be engraved on the manufacturer plate that came with the kit? or both? finally does the manufacturing plate have to be welded to the chassis or can it be riveted? any pics would be great..

any help and general IVA advive would be great.

The other option for the steering wheel is to just use the old Sierra one, if you still have it, and then change it afterwards.

As for the chassis number, I couldn't see anything in the IVA manual so it must be a DVLA requirement. I think it has to be 17 digits/characters long and can be made up, as long as it is unique. For example GBSZERO1234567890. It has to be on the manufacturer plate and the chassis on the off side front of the vehicle (I think). It has to be either on a plate welded to the chassis or stamped in to the chassis using letters with a minimum height (I think it is 3mm, but it may be 4mm) and without any gaps so no other letters or numbers can be inserted.

Hope this helps.

hi

maybe worth ringing your local dvla office regarding chassis number.

i know people have made their own up but some have had problems when it comes to register. think it comes down to local office.

i rang up my local one and they wouldnt allow me to make mine up. gave them detail of what i was doing and they sent me one through the post in couple of days.

also sent forms for first registration and build up letter.

needs to be stamped into chassis on drivers side or on a plate welded to the chassis and somewhere visible, ie not covered by nose cone

as stated a minimum of 3mm stamps with no gaps

cant help with other items sorry

Hi MCRAMSAY,

First ly please join the club its only £15/ year and you get more than that off your insurance.

I have just had a pass at IVA.

What IVA test centre are you using. What is your local DVLA office? They are all suposed to use the same rule book but some read the rules differently!

1 The steering wheel was unpadded and not an issue. The wheel spokes had the correct edge treatment for their thickness as did the central boss. Check the IVA manual on this site.

2 Best you seek the services of an Emerald RR specialist. The theory is you just knock down the fuel injection pulse time. In practice you need a rolling road to keep a steady RPM / load. If your ECU is self learning and fully loaded with sensors then you can fit a wide band Lambda sensor and it will adjust its self. Seek out the RR specialist as you need to ask the question on how to adjust the map.

3 Don't follow the advice given above! It may cause problems, they are bureaucrats after all The manufacturer provides the VIN number, well instructions, use the sales receipt No and characters of your choice to make the string of 17. It must be stamped on the chassis with correct size letter / number stamps. When you fill in the IVA form you have to say where it is, of course it must be in a readable place. Some DVLA offices used to want to Issue the number but you have to have it stamped on the chassis when you go for IVA.

After IVA you will have to take the car to have a Build Up Inspection. It will take about a week after the BUI for you tax disc to arrive.

Give me a PM if you want your IVA paperwork completed for a small fee.
