Alternator Regulator

Morning all

 

I have swopped over my huge alternator for a small Nissan Micra one. It only has two wires going to it. Do they have an external voltage regulator?

Two wires. They usually have three. The big charging wire, a wire for the ignition light and a 12V ignition live to get some magnetism going.

From memory there are 3 types of plug.

Each type can be populated with 2 or 3 signals, A permanent / switched live for energizing, a battery sense line and the charging light. There is also a separate big (ish) 6mm nut for the charging current to go to the battery.

 

It is difficult to say which one of the Denso small alternators has been fitted, they keep changing the pattern.
