Hello all,

My thermostat housing cracked the other day on my 2.0 pinto in my S7,

Ive got a new housing, stat and gaskets,

Any tips on bleeding the system as i dont have a heater connected or bleed ports,

Also does anyone know the torque settings for the housing bolts ?

I dont want to over torque and crack the new housing,

Anyone reccomend a good coolant ? i was just going to use standard stuff

Thanks

James

If you get the later type of thermostat housing it will have a beed spigot which has a rubber cap on it

Remove the rubber cap before filling. Fill rad and when the coolent comes out of the spigot refit the rubber capand do up the clip.

Torque settings for the housing are 17 to 20 NM 13 to 15 lbf ft

Any good universal anti freeze like Holts, Bluecol or Comma will do the job

Guest mower man

+1to last post ,you know it makes sense ! mowerman ps I 'm not pos but I think cvh stat is the same ,will be cheaper from local m/factor than Burton , dont forget to drill 3mm hole in stat ,helps prevent air locks

I drilled a 3mm hole in the stat and made sure it was positioned in the 12 O'clock position when the housing was bolted to the engine. I don't have a bleed on my housing so I rely on this hole to elimate air locks when filling with water............works well enough for me, I just check the water level when the engine has run up to temp.

ps......I have the 82 degree stat from Burtons

I used some ordinary (medium priced) antifreeze at a 50/50 ratio with water (1 jug of water.....1 jug of antifreeze until the system was full).
