Cam Belt Change

Hi all

 

My mate is about to sell his kit but needs to change his timing belt

 

It is a Dohc ford engine, how difficult is it to replace?

The OLD Ford DOHC unit was chain drive not belt or are we talking Zetec?

He just told be it was a Dohc

It's an old sierra Dohc but he is adamant it has a timing belt and it not a chain

 

It's an old y reg car?

Yes he has just checked the car and now sees it does has a Timing chain and not a belt!

 

How hard is a head gasket change?

Not hard, just expensive.

 

Head gasket set

new chain? (depending on age condition of the old one)

Plastic chain guides (usualy want changing)

Chain tensioner (these can be re-set but were designed as a one shot use, Les welsher (spelling) off this forum came up with a method)

I will have a look when I get to work on Monday, I should have a list of parts / costs from when we removed the head off our donor engine. I just remember thinking this is getting bloody expensive, and at the time there were a few people giving away good known engines.
