Shortened Sump Baffles

ZeroKnowledge

Recommended Posts

last year I fitted a shortened sump but on very heavy braking the oil light briefly lights.

I dont want to weld any aluminium in but could make up steel baffle & attach/weld it to small baffle

already there.

Whats the best baffle design to use.

photos of sump as it is now

Looking at your sump a simple one way flap would allow oil in but prevent it moving away from pick up area, you could put small slots in to allow a small amount of oil movement

finally got round to fitting a sump baffle

I chose a simple hinged flap (made from gate hinge) as Snapperpaul suggested -seemed to work ok with water, wont be tested on road till april

also adjusted the bottom of oil pickup to sump base gap to 8mm

hopefully this will do the trick

My DOHC sump did not have the extra capacity extension added.

I never had an oil problem.

The suggestion of a gate hinge baffle across the point where the extension fits makes sense to me.

How much did you cut from the pickup? mine was only about 1/4 inch above and parallel to the flat bottom.

actually Graham I added an 8mm spacer to the pickup where it bolts to the block as the gap was 16mm !!!!
