just had a quick look in haynes manual and if it was a auto there would of been a start inhibitor/ reversing light switch , wire that went to pin4 (Bn/W) will need to go to earth. As long as you still have the relay still wired in , if not will have to look at closing the circuit else where. switch is on page 13.36 of haynes book item number 14 and wiring shown on page13.38 center of page 3/4 way down. hope this helps

just found diagram for relay and the inhibitor switch closes the relay to take power form buzz bar to conection 50 on the starter motor dont know what other items it may switch with out a bit more investigation.

 

it also goes to pin 30 of the ecu so may this is where your problems are. If the relay and switch circuit to the starter have been bypassed then it will turn over at a guess pin 30 is a second safety to stop the ecu injecting fuel ??
