There are a few companies out there that do short term policies, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month and so on but they tend to be for standard production cars. If you are after a month or more cover, then I suspect the option suggested of a full 12 month specialist policy is the best route and then cancel it when you don't need it. You will incur admin fees, but may still work out at a reasonable premium overall.

If you are after a cover for a shorter period of time, I suspect you may struggle. If it is under 14 days cover, you could take out an annual policy and see if you could cancel it under the 14 day cooling off period. However, I think this may only apply if you can buy it online and not over the phone with a broker. This way, they should waive any cancellation fees, or at least reduce them. Just a thought.

I'm with Whiz on this one, don't forget you insurance covers you for Fire & Theft.

Heaven forbid, but that could happen at any time of the year, even when she is mothballed away for the winter.

The other thing is, if you do have the full years insurance you build up a no claims discount (hopefully) making it cheaper next year. I don't think you get any discounts for shorter periods of time.
