ive been looking to get a 3 phase supply for my car lift just seen a geny on ebay that has a 3 phase out put but its rated at 1 x 380 volts @ 6kw socket or 3 x 240 2kw single phase socets, any one know if this voltage will blow the 3 phase motor ?

It's actually dropped a little. It used to be 240 single phase and 415 3-phase, but now it's generally reckoned to be 230 / 400 volts with that being the RMS values.

So peak values are root ( 2 ) times higher. I.e 230 volts is 325 peak and 400 is 566 volts peak.

If your generator supplies 380 volts in 3-phase ( I assume that's the rms value), it will be a little low on the volts output, but may supply a little more current for the power.

So your motors may not generate their maximum power ratings.

Simon.

have you looked into capacitor converters.this takes single phase 240 volts and using lead/ lag tec creates 3 phase.this way you can save running geny and associated cost.have see these in action on ramps for years . may be worth a look into .
