Chassis Rust, Long Time Standing

Hi all,

Started building this in 2009 and due to various circumstances I had to stop building.

So today I went and uncovered it with a view to working out where to start again.

I painted the chassis in green and attached the panels, on uncovering it the rust has started to get hold.

Its only surface rust (welds are fine) it will need to be repainted.

Due to the panels being fitted it will have to be hand painted.

Anyone any idea on a paint spec, would like to stay with the green.

Thanks

John

Don't know if POR 15 do any colours.

As far as I've experienced, it is the best hand applied prep and paint system going.

It really outdoes the old Hammerite.

Hope this helps and good luck with your build.

if there is rust you need to get rid of the rust b4 painting...however you do that:

mechanical (e.g. sanding) or chemical (e.g. rust converter)..anything else is waisted time&energy&paint.

Just used Por15 and its the best spray job ive ever done .... And with a brush too

You dont see many brush lines and its tough as fek.

Downside is the expense. I used the works too, marine clean, metal ready, por15 and por15 chassis black.

But one tin I would think will do the whole chassis.

Yuup. Done two now.

One 3 years ago, out in the weather and open to it.

Still like new.

As long as the instructions are followed. No problems in future.

POR 15 gets my vote, I hand painted my chassis with it a few years back, it takes a bit longer as there a few different stages that have to be followed, but it will stick to rust better than solid steel, and chemically bonds to it, it stops any further rust forming once painted. It goes rock hard and is very very hard to chip. Also the wetter the paint gets the harder it becomes. Self levelling and paints on like silk. Awsome product, well worth the extra money and as you can tell I could not recommend it any higher!

Thanks for all the replies I think that POR15 is the way to go.

I shall research the correct paint system, marine clean etc.

Thanks again.
