Little Ships

Ramsgate Royal harbour looked absolutely amazing this afternoon.

It's full of the surviving brilliant Little Ships of the Dunkirk Evacuation (Operation Dynamo).

They will be making the pilgrimmage to Dunkirk tomorrow and returning Sunday or Monday.

It got quite misty for a little while, but a few deep breaths soon cleared the mist.

Without these amazing vessels and their brave crews, many more lives would have been lost back in 1940 and history could be totally different. We owe them a great debt of gratitude and funds should be available to ensure they remain seaworthy and any in need of restoration should have funds allocated. Heritage Lottery Fund, where are you!!

Let's hope they all have a safe and uneventful crossing

The unselfish bravery shown by all there crews is incredible.

They weren't just going across and bringing men back.

They were staying there and ferrying men from beach to larger ships.

No way could they and many others could ever be paid back for what was done to save this country.

I'm just saddened by a lot of the younger generation take things for granted these days.

One of our friends is there with his "little ship" that he has restored. He set out on Monday from Leicestershire to sail down to Ramsgate then over to France. Even with the support boats and RLNI along side them and no one firing at them I think they are all still very brave to take these mostly canal and river boats out to sea.

God bless them all and thank you to them all for showing others how things were so we can live the way we do today.

Well they all made it safely to Dunkirk. It took them around 7 hours!

Couldn't see them off today, but we will be at the Harbour on Monday to welcome them back.

God bless them all.

Paul, hat's off to your friend, he has little part of our heritage in his care, and with the dedication & pride the current owners of the Little Ships have, she'll be in good care.
