Back Fire

after a nice long run down to kent yesterday and then back to essex then back home to derby today i started to get back fire and sorta splutting from the exhuast what can cause this to happen after such a long run never done it before

Try retarding the ignition.

Just slightly, turn the distributer clockwise, if nothing improves it's something else but it is a quick and cheap check.

Check for leak in exhaust manifold

Gonna try both suggestion first but was looking at changing the ht leads and distributor to electronic one where is the best place to get one for the ford pinto

It's already an electronic dizzy, Dell.

No need for the vacuumed advance pipe from the carb. Changing the HT leads might be a good idea though as they are a few years old.

Cheers mate working away at the moment so should of looked on Sunday at it nearly ordered a complete distributer will order new leads for her tho
