Steering column brackets

Dear all,

 

I am fitting my steering column to my 2B. The lower bracket seems fine, but the other one at the wheel end seems to thin? it is pinched together with bolts? Is this right for the IVA?

I am thinking to make a new bracket from thicker steel? Has anyone else come across this problem?

I made mine from 3mm steel plate as per the pic and Colin ushers dwg.
