Dcoe Twin Throttle Cables

Hello all,

As part of my EXMO engine upgrade I will be fitting a pair of 2'nd hand 40 DCOE carbs which came fitted with a twin throttle cable linkage however I'm unsure of how the two cables will fit to the Sierra accelerator pedal since I've never actually seen an installation like this with my own eyes. I know loads of people have done this so there must be a tried and tested method. Do I need special cables or will generic cables from Vulcan or Burton do the job? Do I need any extra bits apart from the cables? Would it be possible for someone to post some photographs of their twin cable installation so that I can get an idea of what I need to aim for?

Thank you in advance,

John.

Hi John,

my linkage (from Rally Design) has a small ally block which fits over the pedal ball joint & is held by a grub screw.

The top of the block has 2 slots & recessed holes where the nipples go.

I'll try & post a piccy this weekend.

Bob.

you buy the block that "grips" the two cables (available from all good Weber agents) weld a suitable sized piece of bar to the top bend of the pedal (obviously first remove the little ball thing) and there you go! everything is gripped with small grub screws.

Don't forget to make stops so that you can't go "over pedal" and twist the carb spindles.

Thanks for the replys gentlemen :D ,

After posting the original message I spent a little time thinking about the problem and came up with more or less the same solution (although with my fabrication skills this will test me to the limit!!!). I've had a quick look on the Rally Design web site and they only seem to sell complete linkage kits. Does anyone know if it's possible to buy just the required parts for the pedal (plus the cables of course) without buying the entire linkage set?

Thanks,

John.

John

I have just finished installing my new vulcan engine, with twin 40's, i went for the twin cable system you are talking about. But i havn't used the two cable supplied in the kit along with the pedal adaptor.

I was told that the only real need for 2 cables is for the rally boys who raz about the forest in there mkII escorts. These boys have very heavy feet and tend to brake there throttle cablesthe second cable is only a back up. all road cars have 1 cable so why do we need 2??? it only adds weight, and in true hoodie fashion every ounce counts!!!

so

what i have done is use the exsisting ford sierra cable with the original pedal attachment, cut down the cable length, trimmed the outer sleve back 4 inches and attached to one of the points the twin cable attach to on the carb linkage. Just for added measure and to add 1 extra ounce i was advised to slide a electrical terminal (chocolate block) over the end of the cable to hide the sharpe end and to offer a extra bit of security just incaes the cable slipps.

I was at first a little unsure whether one cable would work operating on one side of the linkage, but having driven it there is no notches, stiffness, a big improvement on the poo ford linkage on the 32/36 DGAV.

hope this helps, it certainly will reduce the amount of work you need to do and also the cost of the extra bits. best way i think

John,

It's useful to know that I might be able to use the Sierra cable because by the time I'm ready to fit everything back together I'll probably be glad of anything that makes things easier/cheaper   .

PS: Have you set up your 40's yet and if so what jet sizes are you running?

Cheers,

John.
