Servo/master Cylinder

Hi all,

I'm currently building a DOHC kit but need some advice. The servo/master

cylinder combination won't fit into the room available, this is because I

have centred the engine in the bay instead of pushing it over at an angle to

the nearside as Robin Hood have done. Can anyone suggest a different

servo/master cylinder combination that uses a smaller diameter servo but

will give a similar servo boost ratio.

Many thanks

Rob

Hi Rob,

You could try a search for servo

This will give you about 250+ postings to scan through

There are a few DOHC builders on this site - someone will probably get back to you.

Hi Rob,

some people ditch the servo and have had no problems due to the weight of car you are trying to stop.

I have a 2B but used the DOHC engine. I kept the servo but placed it over the other side of the car using the remote linkage off a fiesta. Check out my web side on the link at the bottom of this post, I have some pictures of it and more details of the type of linkage I used.

There are a number of people that have ditched the servo. You just need to make up a new push rod from the pedle to the master cylinder, though I have herd that Tiger have just such an item listed.

The second mod is to go for softer brake pads.

Hello mate,

I've just finished putting a vauxhall engine in my car and its the same with that, theres no room for the existing mastercylinder/servo.

So what I did was to use a remote servo off an early MGB, which doesn't need a linkage to the pedal but just has a pipe from the master cylinder and a vacuum pipe from the inlet manifold (don't ask me exactly how it works, its my dad that does that bit, I just pay for the stuff!).So it could be mounted anywhere in the engine bay.

As for the master cylinder I used a girling unit which you can get from a place called www.nfauto.co.uk.

The hardest bit is trying to find the MGB servo, but there are a few on ebay.

Hope this helps!

hillman hunter, imp etc used this system, and i used it when i did v6 and v8 conversions into mk1 escorts, the only thing to remember is to keep the servo above the master cylinder, and the other thing is availability, about the same chance as getting a job cleaning sh.. out of coocko clocks

Hi Rob

Just had an MOT on my 2b (Pinto) yesterday, the first time without a servo,

Passed no problem

Figures were Fronts 300 rears (drums) 275 Hand brake 240

Hope this info helps, Servo not needed, can still lock all 4 wheels.

Cheers Kevin
