Radiator Bottom Hose

last post seems to have got lost so here goes again.

Having binned the RH rad fitted capri rad (same dimensions as coolman but outlets straight out backwards not at 90%). Seems to fit well and looks much better.

Now the question!

There is not quite enough room for the bottom hose to get between the alt and the bottom u shaped chassis tube. Fits but squashed a bit when engine not running. Concerned will rub / fail when engine running.

Alternative route around tube reduces ground clearance so not an option. Anyone had similar problem can suggest solution / alternative route.

I ran my bottom hose through the "triangle" of the fan belt, I figured that when a fan belt needed changing, I wouldnt mind changing the coolant anyhow.....!!

I think tight bends can be made using 32mm (32mm) copper fittings. The pre soldered elbows for example have a ridge which is quite effective at holding the hose when using a jubilee clip.

^_^ I also had this problem when I got a coleman rad and rather than change the hoses, I took the rad to a local repairer (sheldrake & wells, its it national) and they put on angled outlets for £25 +vat.

Same as ours but we had a spare fitted just in case, so we did not have to let all the water out . :D

As it is it tended to squeal on startup even though it was the correct tightness so we fitted them both as our pulley wheels had extra slots on them so we now run it with 2 alternator belts :D :D

Mine is the same between the alt belts (2) like Bill as there is provision for 2 (injected lump) I fitted both. I also made up the bottom hose from Stainless tube with short rubber hose at the ends as I found the convoluted type I first used moved around so much it hit the alt belt. As for the angle you require I think you will have to take it to a rad specialist unless you are good with the old soldering iron.

I have the 2B with wishbones.

I had a right angled bottom outlet brazed on the Coolman Rad.(points towards the offside) then used a flexi hose from Halfords. This hose goes to the offside, then up and over the steering, rack following the curved chassis tube (kept in place with cable ties. This is then joined to one of the original Sierra hoses cut to size (sorry can't remember which one, it's that long since i did it  ). But it easily follows the curved chassis tube down and then naturally turns a right angle under the alternator to the block. More of a convoluted route I know, but there is no tube below the chassis and there will be no need to partially drain the coolant with accompanying problems of bleeding air on refilling, if i need to change the alternator belt.

I'd take a phot but my desktop PC has gone TU and I'm using a laptop with limited software on it but hope this is of use.

I think you must have your alternator in a different place to me as mine is below the steering and therefore below the block and the connection for the hose points forward therefore it must pass through the belt regardless of how many fancy bends you put in the pipe

I used a smaller alternator from a Beford Rascal and made up a new mounting that raises it up well clear of the steering shaft ;)

This is where I've put mine :p

Sorry this pic has been a while in arriving. I had problems uploading it from a laptop whilst my desktop motherboard was replaced. That has now been done and if you are seeing this it must be OK. Still can't understand why I couldn't upload from my laptop though <_<

And now back to the original topic hopefully in the pic below you can see where my bottom hose follows the chassis side tube then dips down under the alternator.

P.S.

Not my original idea. I think I read about someone doing something similar in their build diary but can't remember who it was now
