Where To Get A 205 Block And Cossie Head

im looking for a ford 205 block, for an engine build & winter project. I've checked out a few motorsport places on the net, and typically, they dont come cheap

so, im just wondering if anyone knows as to where i can get a good block at a fair price. I've thought about raiding a scrappy but dont fancy buying a distorted block.... so how would a lamen identify a 205 block, and how would i make sure that the block is in good nick? likewise i have a 1600 pinto block kicking about, how much stress can these blocks take before they go BooM? Lastly, someone once described the pinto as 'proper pig iron'. So did ford ever build a pinto alloy block? I appreciate that may sound daft, but as far as my knowledge allows for, some mazda pick ups use ford pinto motors, but these have alloy blocks...

Im also after a solid cosworth 16v head as used in the sierra, sappire, escort cosworths. Again i've checked on the net, and prices range from £400 to £2000. All i'm after is the head, no valves, cams, rocker etc etc...

any info kindly appreciated

cheers

A 205 block was used on the 2.00 EFi, it's almost the same as the Cosworth, but in the Cosi the conrods are longer and the pistons have a shorter distance twix the gudgin pin and the crown so you can rev it higher, they are also stronger.

Look in the free adds for an old scrapper.

I can't help with a head, sorry.

The Sierra Cosworth (2wd) YB engine was indeed based on the same 205 block as the later injection models but with different innards specifically for the purpose of handling more power (Steel crank, extra flywheel bolts etc..). When the 4WD Sierra Cosworth was launched Ford used a revised block which had added internal webbing to increase strength (This block should not be confused with the motorsport 200 Block, but I’ll not go down that road).

The amount of power a 205 block can handle when in Cosworth guise has been discussed at length with the general consensus being about 330-350HP (Flywheel) safely.

Ford never mass produced an alloy pinto block but their motorsport division developed a few units, a few of these have filtered down into private hands. The last I heard was that these are still available the price, a mere snip at between £4-5K (For the block only) :o :o , this then requires machining to suit it’s intended application.

Hope this helps

I dint think you could put a Cosworth YB cylinder head onto a pinto 205 block.

I had read that there was a slight difference that meant you couldnt mate them..

Is this true...

salutations & thx for the info

contacted vulcan engineering, and they can do a 'dirty' 205 block for 150 bucks and a "shagged" but metallurically solid rwd cossie head for £300. tis skimmed as well. I reckon i will raid the scrappy and see what they can do, though vulcan can ring wire the block for £48, plus they can chemically strip and paint the block for about £70. So it may be cheaper to buy a block from vulcan and get them to ring wire it there + fit pistons, as opposed to me buying a block locally and getting it to vulcan and back for the machining....

though for that dosh, i could maybe pick up a 4x4 block...

yup, the 205 takes cossie head :o

or according to this source at least

The engine was based on the "Pinto" block with the Cosworth developed 16 valve aluminum head. The 16v head was originally going to be a tuning part offered by Cosworth for the humble OHC engine. Very much like the Warrior conversion of that time

cheers
