Thanks Alan. Got one from a ford Ka which seems to fit the alloy bracket that was already with the engine. Now just the water pump to sort! Cheers for the advice on the wiring, I may well come back to you on that when I get sorted.

Evening all, Just looking at which alternator to fit to my blacktop 2b conversion and seem to have quite a bit of room left which i'm thinking might mean I can put the standard blacktop one in (already have the bracket). Does anyone have the dimensions ?? of this so I could check prior to buying on eBay as don't have any local scrapies! Thanks Simon

Hi all,
Another beginners question but could anyone please tell me how to connect up an R1 fuel pump to a zetec.
Fuel tank in my 2b is the staineless type that has two pipes currently, fuel in and return. Where do i sit the pump and what connects where. The pump is a 1999 version with two outlets, one curved one straight (if that helps!)
Ideally as the fuel pipes are already in place i would like to install in the engine bay, but have read that this is not a efficent as putting in the rear, below the tank?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply,
I've added some pics here,
http://s1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/1186497/
So there gsxr600 carbs onto blacktop zetec with a st170 manifold. Have an R1 pump that i need to install, megajolt lite jr for electrics.....
Any help on how to get all these hooked up would be great
Thanks

Hi all,
Posted a few weeks ago about plumbing in the water to my zetec and got a great response. All will be complete by the end of the week and will post some pics...
But next up is the carbs and I need some help in terms of what to connect where.
Does anybody have a diagram in connecting the above carbs to zetec?
Thanks

Evening all,
Just about to make the plunge and buy my water hoses but thought i'd check on here if anyone can advise a cheaper way of doing things. For the whole lot i'm looking at 100 quid
Plan is as per the above post by Nigel but only using rubber hose rather than alloy sections, but all in all the price is sent skywards by the joiners and reducers.
So - 32mm from radiator to 32mm - 38mm reducer and then onto a 38mm T section to water pump
25mm from T to stat
32mm to 32mm - 38mm reducer to stat
Not sure if this will work but attached is a shopping basket, if you have any comments let me know
Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to order the water pipes so just to clarify before i do
Upper hose - does this need the alluminum tube i have seen in some diagrams or can it be pure silicone?
Lower hose - All silicone but does split, is there a standard part for this that you know of, ie the zetec hoses, or should i be able to easily find this?
Block off one side of thermostat - should be easy
Overflow bottle - prsume a camping flask or similar
Thanks for the help

Thanks both, will have a look tomorrow and read the blog, Nigel your system looks quite simple and I presume can be run without the heater?
Thanks Simon

Hi all,
Just after a bit of help if possible as i'm at the stage in my zetec converion where i need to sort out the cooling
Planning to use the set up as per http://www.toyne.org.uk/docs-cooling.html
Couple of questions though
Do i need a expansion tank, my radiator has a cap that so never had one when running a pinto?
What is the side exit pipe?
The long aluminium pipe, what diameter have people used, and how long is long?
Thanks for any advice.....trying to get it right first time!

Good Evening
Just looking for some quick advice to help my next weekend go smoothly!
Fitting 2l blacktop zetec to a type 9 and trying to collate all the bits in advance.
Type 9 gearbox
R1 Carbs
ST170 manifold with rubbers
R1 Fuel pump
1.8 ztec flywheel, was going down the lightened route but cant find a cheap deal
Standard pinto clutch
Do i need a spigot bearing FINIS code 1554973 or will this be the same as what i has on my pinto to type 9 setup??
Release bearing Quinton Hazell part CCT133, do i need one of these ??
New flywheel bolts, are these really needed ??
Starter motor, have the standard pinto one but think it is the large diameter one, in which case presume it wont fit so need Lucas LRS543 ??
A bottle for crank breathing.
Have ecu sorted and alternator/water pump, mounts. Is this everything to get the engine in and potetnially running?
Thanks for any help

Thanks Nigel
Got my eye on one from a st170 that i've found scouring the net, just need to see if it is still available otherwise a homemade one might be in order.
In terms of the megajolt ecu - do you need the trigger wheel as well, I am presuming so and this is probably a stupid question but read a few conflicting reports.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply Stephen
IVA not as issue as already on the road, injection is just working out too expensive. Ideally want all for £500, which seems to fit in with the bike carb route.
Thanks
Simon

Thanks Andy/Nigel
After much deliberating I think bike carbs are the way forward as the throttle boddies were looking expensive.
Can't really see any manifolds/carbs already set up so will keep looking, but in the meantime am going to get the megajolt ecu. Do i need to go TPS or MAP version??
MAP seems ok but thought it worth checking

Thanks Nigel
Planning to fit it over a few days so nice to know Halfords do some i can select from without a wait
Obviously with only a ew days to fit I am trying to ensure everything is ready and ready to slot in, so any comments on the below is welcome
Ok, from fitting upwards as i see it, please commet if it all sounds wrong as a amatuer at this.
2l Blacktop zetec
Cut chassis towards back of engine bay to allow propshaft to fit and thus allowing the standard water housing to still be used reducing the need for a water rail
Cut and brace bottom chassis by engine mounts so sump fits (sump already shortened)
1.8 zetec flywheel and 2l pinto clutch - Do I need to redrill?? or will it go on ok?
New realease bearing and spigot bearing
Hopefully that is it for the general fitting....now
New GBS Zero pedal box... i prsume this moves the standard servo? or do i need to buy another?
Shortened oil filter, new lrs707 starter motor, alternator...which one??
Megajolt of squirt ecu..... which, i am thinking squirt.
I was going down the route of throttle boddies but I am planning to do this next week so time running out to buy, these loot the best bet and i think will fit??
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Although then i presume a fuel pump etc is needed so presume carbs is easier, in which case which of the below??
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WEBER-45-DCOE-152G-P...=item2305db1e9d
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Weber-45-Dcoe-Zetec-...=item5191a059f1
As well as carbs i presume i would need an inlet manifold?
Any advice on the above would be great as time is a big factor on trying to get this running!!
Thanks
Simon
As well as carbs i presume i would need an inlet manfold?

Thanks all.
Relooked today and plan to put an idler to the right of the engine so as to get the water pump spinning the other way. If someone has done this is there a belt that you would recommend to fit? Going to make it adjustable but would be good to get before doing the job.
Thanks
Simon

Thanks Alan, i think....
Had not even considered this, was only looking as it was missing off the engine I have.
Whats the easiest/cost effective option??
Thanks

Thanks Dinger,
Kept searching and found one at burton power so all good.

Evening All
Does anyone know what cambelt is needed for a 2l blacktop zetec from a mondeo? Tried searching but having little luck.
Thanks
Simon

Thanks Knock-On, let me know how it goes over the weekend!
Spoke to Richard at GBS and ordered the following
Enigne mounts, with some extra tube to allow for me to move the engine back
Zero pedal box
Throttle Cable
Spigot Bearing
Exhaust - I was going to take it to a maker to make one that exits through the bonnet, however apparently GBS now do this so have ordered and will see the results? If not it'll go back.
Richard mentioned he recommeds using a 2L zetec clutch and flywheel....any thoughts? I already have 1.8 zetec flywheel and existing 2L pinto clutch.
Thinking about ordering the throttle boddies, although they are £300+ and cant remeber if they come with ECU, if so then probably good value, if not then seems expensive
Thanks
Simon

Thanks for the comments Graham, I think your suggestions are spot on from what I have read. I suppose it is a case of offering it up and seeing what fits and what doesn't.
Looking at it a floor mounted pedal box is a must, so i'll get one ordered tomorrow.
All advice still welcome.
Thanks

Hi All
Picked up the engine today with the plan to fit it during Easter. As time is tight i am hoping that sucess will be in the planning!!
I know there is lots of experts out there so please help on my shopping list
Zetec to Type 9 - 1.8 Zetec flywheel, spigot bearing 1554973, use same pinto clutch, shorten sump. Then it just slots on? Do i need to remove gerabox or will it slot in while in place? (sounds so simple, but i know it wont be)
Other Ancillaries - (any advice on what ones would be good)
Alternator
Starter Motor - Lucas LRS707
ECU - Megajolt
Carb or boddies,
Inlet manifold to suit
Fuel pressure regulator
Swirl Pot
Fuel Pump
Cambelt
Remote oil filter
Water Rail
Water rail - my plan is to use the same prop so am i right in thinking this involoves cutting the chassis to fit it in, if so does this eliminate the need for a water rail??
Pedal Box - In a 2b will the engine fit without moving the pedal box to the floor?? if not is the GBS one ok?
Mounts - I presume the GBS ones wont fit if i am planning on cutting the chassis to ensure the prop does not need changing?
As you'll tell i'm a complete amature so the more help the better please.
Thanks, and sorry if these questions have been asked but i have looked through searching

Hi Guys
Thanks for the quick responses!
Doddy - any chance the ones you have for sale would fit the following, thinking of saving time to buy the manifold as well! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Zetec-Inlet-Manifold...=item3cab5f6a58
Thanks

Hi All
Finally getting around to fitting a 2l blacktop zetec into my 2b and will no doubt have a few questions about what i need. However looking to prepare to do it in a couple of weeks and looking to get everything ready for a lightening installation!! With this in mind i am trying to do it fairly cheaply but cant be too fusy due to lack of time.
Looking on Ebay and a bit of research of various forums, I am considering the GSXR600, as far as i can see I need a custom manifold which is ok, and the throttle boddies seem to give a enough power. Firstly are they a wise choice??
Secondly can someone advise ones to get, seem to be a few on ebay all with K something, which are best, and what do they need doing to get them ready for zetec, or should i just go with these although it seems expensive http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/zetec-2-0-throttle-b...=item19baebb9bd
Any help would be great, and i'm sure i'll be back for more advise pretty soon
Thanks
Zetec Loom From Scratch
in Electrics
Posted
Hi all,
Just after a bit of advice, I am just about to start wiring up my zetec and trying to do on a budget so hoping to get a loom going without shelling out a fortune on one from off the shelf.
Blacktop running R1 carbs, fuel pump and megajolt. Anyone done this and if so how difficult is it?
I cant for the life of me find a website selling connectors for the temp sensor etc.. so is it best to get a zetec loom from ebay to get these bits?
As far as I can tell it is then just various wires through the megajolt and edis 4 to the various connectors and fuses and battery and then prey.
Thanks for any help
Simon
