  1. The tought of a bike engine had crossed my mind, the main attraction been the size and weight of one, as i bet you wouldnt have to show horn one in!!!

Anyone know the rough costs involved, i would have thought more than the 2K for a zetec. and probably a lot harder to fit!

  2.

Well i think i will stick to the trusty old pinto, more hassle than its worth i imagine looking down the zetec or bike route!!

On the head from i think i'm going to look out on various sites to see if a good one comes up already done, as i doubt after i have cocked things up it will work out much cheaper to do it myself

Can anyone give me a few things that i should look out for in a new head, i.e

    Carbs

    Cam

    Compression

    Valves

    etc....

Also what is the deal with Bike Carbs?? I have seen a few posts but nobody has actually said the advantages/disadvantages? or are they that obvious

Saw some one using R1 Carbs which seemed to give hime better torque than 45's??

If a good idea, how easy are they to fit?

Once again, thanks for any help.

  3. Hi Keith

Did you find a good place to get these? I am after some new ones for my 2B, all fibreglass instead of steel.

I am hoping locost ones fit, although anything will fit better than the RH ones :D

    Cheers

    Simon

  4. Cheers guys, soo much information,

Sounds like there is a hell of a lot you can do to the old pinto, although all this talk of skimming etc sounds a little complicated, so might watch out for one coming available thats already done!!

On a slightly different note....... what are the costs of putting a zetec in a 2B ? and how hard is it?

I searched a bit on here for it and saw a figure of £2k quoted, has anyone done it for less? Although the 2L black tops seem about £500 on thier own

I'm sure many people have done this conversion, and i think its probably the way forward compared to a pinto, but has anyone compiled a step by step guide to converting one? If not.....someone should and get selling it!!

  5. Why not go injection?

A carb can only give optimal performance in one part of the rev range. With injection you can map it to optimal settings right through the rev range.

You can use motorcycle throttle bodies rather than the standard pinto injection system. Add a megasquirt to control it and it need not cost too much.

If you don't want fuel injection at least take a map-able ingnition system. Ignition timing is critical to power output. Do you really think a couple of spinning weights and springs and a vacuum advance can give you optimal settings?

So the ideal set up for a pinto would be an injection head rather than carbs?

So ideally on a £500 tune of the head what would you want......

You talk about megasquirt at not much cost..how much?

  6. I bought one of these engines about a year ago but when measuring up it looked a hell of a job to fit, not only engine bay mods but also looked like it needed some mods to the side pannels

As i have this i am exploing ways of making my pinto work harder, unless of course anyone has squeezed one of these in and could tell me how hard it is.

A long shot i'm sure so i'll be surprised if anyone has :o

  7. Hi Mick

Standard apart from a 38 DGAS with pipercross airfilter. At the moment the exhaust is as you mentioned. Although i have a new silencer so am planning to add a 4 pipe manifold to replace the standard one, and connet it to the silencer, either by two 2.5" tubes or one coming from the manifold to the silencer, depending on if that makes a difference?

  8. Hi Guys

At the monent i am running a standard 2L Pinto lump on a type 9. As the winter is drawing in i have confined the 2B to the garage for the cold nights. If they ever arrive!!

I am looking to mod the engine through the winter to tune it up so it achieves a decent 0-60 time, if you have a spare minute i would appriciate your opinions on what the best mods are to do to achieve the quickest 0-60......apart from change the engine :D

Cash is as always a big factor so the cheaper the better, however i would prefer to do it once than keep changing so if its money well spent then ill get saving

    Thanks

    Simon

  9. Hi there

I bought a new exhaust silencer for my 2B last year and i have just got round to thinking about replacing it with my existing rusted RH standard one.

My new silencer has a inlet of 2.5", i plan to keep some of the RH exhaust until it comes out of the side panel and then lop it off.

I have got a 1m length of 2.5" tube to bring the silencer forward from the side outlet but i need to connect this to the existing tubes???

I believe a Y piece is in order........inlet 2.5" and two outlets of about 1.5" to fit the RH exhaust???

Jetex dont seem to do the outlet this small and i am not sure how tight i will be able to get it. Anyone know a place that sells these????????

    Thanks for any help

  10. Hi, thanks for the responses

    It is a cable throttle

Dennis - will try checking the sensor as it does seem electrical, as when you tap the throttle, normally taking it to 2K revs, its rises to about 6K which would be impossible if mechanical.

Also someone mentioned it could be traction control unit sticking, suggested taking off the front and spraying with WD40.....or replacing. Any thoughts??

Will try both as nothing to lose, Dennis dont suppose you know where the sensor is..........sorry no manual to consult

    Thanks

  11. Hi guys

First of all I apologies if this is in the wrong section, wasn’t RH related so thought it best to put in here.

Ok I have a 2.5 V6 Mondeo and coming back from work tonight it started revving uncontrollably. It happened once, once before but now more seriously

Basically as soon as you put your foot on the pedal it revs to about 6K and wont really settle, comes to about 3K after about 1 min.

The throttle pedal has a lot of play in it and cannot be forced up to stop the revving.

If you go to the engine you can manually push the throttle linkage back so it rest at the normal 1K. If you rev in engine bay it is fine, does not stick or anything!!!

I believe the cable goes through the traction control unit so as something appears to be sticking, could it be something in here??? Although turn the TC off and it does not cure the problem

    Any ideas???

Must say the 30 mile drive home was quite fun on the M1, but queues were a problem!!!

    Thanks

    Simon

  12. Mickey/Bill - some unknown person crashed into my newly purchased one and cracked the rear bumper............then some women pulled into the side of me in london.....i pulled over, she drove off and on a road with about 20 camaras so could not get her!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So my car is ready for a thrash around a track, thought you two guys or anyone else with a Ford V6 might be interested?????????

  13. Hi, and Happy Christmas!! Hope everyone had a good one and has being out playing in the snow!!!!

Ok got a snooper s2 for christmas and in order to unlock it you have to subscribe, at £5 per month

So £60 a year just to get downloads that i might do mayber 4 times a year......seems a little steep!

Are there any detectors on the market where downloads are free, or you can just pick and choose months to pay for???

    Anything upto about £250

    Thanks for any advice

  14. Well apart from smashing up my front windscreen to get the heated screen working i also have a few pounds letf to try and keep my license........ i know i know...dont speed.........but occasionally the old right foot goes a bit heavy and before you know it your up into tripple figures...

So are the any good speed detectors ( both static camaras and mobile units) and if poss Sat Nav as well??

Saw the new road angel Navigator wich looks great but is over £300

Saw this, any good? Surley if Sat Nav works off GPS then static camara locations should be able to be put on this?

  15. Thanks for the quick replies!! Fuses are ok, no relay that i can see, just one to turn it off after a certain period.......which it did as the switcdh light led was on and then turned off after roughly 5 mins as it should.

I was thinking of the hammer to the windscreen option but thought i would explore all other options first!!!

anyone know where the connector under the dash is?

  16. Evening guys, well as no doubt you helped me in my search for a new car post, you will know i got a 2.5 24V V6 Mondeo Ghia X. First day of ice on the car.....got in put on the lovley heated seats.....and front screen and waited for the magic to happen........ but it didn't, the heated front screen does not seem to work. :boohoo: :boohoo: :boohoo:

I'm sure its hard to break these, as maybe a few lines would go but not all of it?

Checked the fuses and they are fine.......anybody any experience of this or think of something else to check?

Frosty night tonight so any help very welcome

    Thanks

    Simon
