  1. Went down the steel bar route, bnq job and worked an absolute treat. Thanks again guys.
  2. Yup, hub nut. Thought about using hand brake and didn't think it would be strong enough, it wasn't (my curiosity got to me!). I think I'll wait till the engine is in, bit of a pain as I'll have to take the wheels off again but no biggie.
  3. Thanks - I may be jumping the gun as engine isn't in yet, want it on the floor for that. I'll probs wait till the engines In then before I fully tighten, was wondering if I had missed a trick that's all.
  4. Evening all. So, my alloys are on order and I'm prepping car to get it on the ground - exiting times. Now, another question - how the hell do I torque the hub nuts without the hub spinning? I've got a torque wrench which goes to the required nm but I am stumped for ideas, I have both rear and front to do. How did other people do it? Thanks! Danny
  5. Ahhh. *click*. Finally twigged, thanks all. For some reason yesterday I couldn't see it but if you lay them flat on their sides and check the angles each end, the rear is obvious.
  6. Have searched but can't find answer anywhere, I'm doing some prep for attaching rear arches this weekend. Are they different sizes each side? I see that kitspares sells them as NSR and OSR so they must be - how do you know which side is which? My wife says they look different but I can't see it however measuring them one side is wider than the other. Widest to the rear of car? Feels like a daft question but thanks for any help.
  7. thanks. I got it to fit in the end, on the outside. I had to cut about 1cm off each side at the bottom, it looks fine and is hidden anyway.
  8. Thanks, I'm nervous about cracking it but after trial fitting the bonnet it will fit much better if it's on the outside of that tab. Hmm, coffee time.
  9. Afternoon, another question from me. I see on various blogs and pictures that the GRP goes on the outside of the mounts on the top of the chassis. There's no way mine will fit on the outside without seriously stressing the GRP. I am wondering if I have a different nose? My kit was purchased in 2014, it's GT and the nose fits perfectly as pictured. I wanted to be sure before I drilled anything.
  10. Not sure why I didnt think of this earlier but I've just finished some trial runs in the garage with a template I made, worked a tread. I used an old piece of right angled metal from work and went from there. All I need to do is fit the trim to scuttle, draw round the edge of the trim then remove. Nedxt line up the line on template with scuttle, clamp in place and drill thro - the rivet hole is in the perfect place each time. I've tested with my dome rivets and ground them down, it works perfectly. I've purchased some countersink rivets also and intend on testing with them and then going for it this weekend.
  11. Thanks guys, I think I'll need to take plenty of time and drink plenty of coffee! I don't have the most delicate of hands shall we say so should be interesting to say the least I've ordered some 1mm drill bits and also a propper punch so I can hopefully be as accurate as possible, fingers crossed.
  12. Evening, I will be finishing my scuttle this weekend and I have just had a few tests for the edge where the dash panel is attached to the scuttle. From the research I have done I need to rivet around the outside edge into the tabs underneath really close to the edge, countersunk so they are hidden from the trim. I've measued the amount I have to play with and the trim covers 7mm in and the rivet heads I have are 6mm in width - I plan on purchasing some countersunk instead of dome heads, but they will still be very close to the edge. Considering my battery tray, firewall and scuttle are removable (I have used rivnuts to attach to chassis) I have a couple of questions: - Are rivets definately required, or overkill? I plan on using plenty of sikaflex on the tabs - Can you buy < 6mm head rivets at all? It doesnt seem so from the quick look I have had so far. - If sikaflex isnt good enough on its own, are there any alternatives to rivets? Self tappers perhaps filed down underenath? I am not confident I will make a neat enough job with rivets all the way along so a little wary, dont want to make a hash of it! Thanks!
  13. Bugger that it's out of date but still useful. For example, I was wondering how the hell I was going to attach another strip of tadpole trim to the inside of the rear panel - doc has the answer, its different type of trim. Richard - I saw a video on facebook the guys at GBS posted about a new CAD system they are using, also seems a new guy has started who's an expert. I asked the question does this mean they are creating a build document and the answer was yes Maybe it's in the pipeline. For me, I am shamelessly using your blog as a build guide LOL
  14. Evening, apologies if I am behind the times but spotted this hidden away on KitSpares site:http://www.kitspares.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1137 I know it's a lot of pdfs combined but there's some really useful info and it's all in one place. I have lots of pics and stuff already on my laptop but this is really useful and handy in one doc. Anyway. Might help someone Happy building.
  15. Sorry Bob just spotted this now, will pm you.
  16. Yup I think that's the issue, I've used far too much glue. I did read through your blog (very informative BTW) but it looks much easier in pictures and words than real life, as usual . I'll take another look after work.
  17. Thanks guys, think I'll try to take it off and start again. Luckily I've taken over the dining room so nice and comfy
  18. Quick picture showing what I mean, it's hard to see but towards the bottom there is maybe a mm gap between the tube and the edge of the aluminium - I think it looks messy and will be obvious when it's on the car.
  19. I started the rear panel this weekend, really pleased with progress and result so far - except for the trim. The tadpole trim that goes round the top strip, what do people use to fix it? I've used the black glue that attaches the panels and I'm not satisfied with the result. The trim doesn't sit right, hard to explain but I expected it to lay underneath the aluminum but I'm having to use clamps to hold it in whilst glue sets. It looks kind of messy, from a distance it's fine but close up not as neat as I thought it would be. Am I being too much of a perfectionist? Would a different adhesive help? Interested to know what you guys used to fix. Thanks!
  20. No problem at all, I'll be able to sort that out I'm sure
  21. Wow that was quick! If you don't mind that would be great, I'll PM you my details etc.
  22. Evening, after a Sierra wheel if anyone is selling one? The steering column I am getting is none adjustable if that makes any difference. Thanks!
