  1. Can someone confirm whether a 2.0l Pinto Capri sump is the same as the Sierra Pinto sump? My engine is the 205 block if that helps. Just thinking of putting in a bid for this one on ebay and getting it delivered straight to Bill and Joey so I have a spare. Might save on Postage the way Royal Mail is faffing around with it http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...mMakeTrack=true

What do you usually do up there? Do the individual areas muck in together and where do you camp?
  3. Ahhhh, he's lovely and cuddly I do quite like Jason. He can be a bit arrogant but has a wicked sense of humour. Being an Oulton boy, you must be hoping Owy gets another drive one day. There are always rumours, rumours and more rumours. A talented kiddy and one of the most popular drivers out there. If only someone would finance him (or for him to get off that fat scouse backside and get some!! ) Love that boy. The series needs him.
  4. Well, I know 2 Hoodies that regulaly attend meetings now; myself and Scooby. If anyones going to Knockhill next week, let me know and we can sink a few Heavies in the Club house.

I stand corrected. There still seem to be a lot of heaps driving around Surrey that you could bet a pound to a penny are not legit but perhaps we just have to wait for the effects of this policy to really take hold. I might just see if I can find out how many have been removed from the road since the police acquired these powers. Would really cheer me up and allow me to retire my soap box for a while. As for the cyclist, why could they not overtake? It's been a long time since I read the highway code (I should have another peek) but I thought that cyclists SHOULD use cycle paths but are not obliged to but if you are on a road with a solid white line on your side, you can overtake a slow or stationary vehicle or horse when it is safe to do so. As for those Lycra wearing prats riding 2 or 3 a breast and refusing to move, I am really going to lose it one day with them. You sit behind them for ages and then when you have the room to overtake, you get a mouthful of abuse. I'm not generally known for my tolerance of rude, arrogant idiots and one day I will lose it with them. I regularly cycle with my partner and one thing we always ensure is that we don't inconvenience other drivers. I agree that riding defensively is important but you can just as easy do that by having one in front and the rear one out about a foot to make the hole. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying car drivers are perfect. I've forgotten the number of occasions a car has brushed me as it's gone past or been sitting 3 inches off my rear wheel but the idiots that hold up traffic by driving alongside each other for miles should have their Nancy bikes and Lycra cod-pieces crushed!!

I appreciate that it they are a law abiding citizen with the car registered to them etc, then they are penalised for any discrepancy. However, there are thousands of cars out there that people buy under a false name and which they have no intention of legalising the vehicles. If they are caught, the chances are they get a producer which they ignore anyway. Surely, if someone has a defective car, with no road tax, the chances are they probably wont have insurance etc either. Why not impound it straight away?
  8. Do they work if they're fitted to the spare tyre? If so, stick me down for some
  9. Well, looks like I need to swallow the price hike and get it done. I've got a couple of weeks till the car arrives to see if I can get one pre done but if not, it may be off to BB. Thanks everyone.
  10. I know what you mean. It's a bit like meeting your girlfriends Ex in a way. It really is a nice example and just felt right. However, up close, there are lots of little things that need addressing that will keep me busy Just got to wait a couple of weeks to get her home but I'm putting a new kennel together for her as we speak. The Girlfriend wanted to paint it in Tigger colours But I know what to do. For Sale, one Girlfriend. good runner but needs some attention. Style somewhat outdated and makes a bit more noise than it used to. Part Exchange considered (Christ, I hope she never finds this forum!! )

    Shortened Sump

First, thanks to Big Jim for pointing me in the direction of the NW Site where a superb explanation is availible on how to shorten a sump on a 205 Pinto Block. However, are there any other options? Does anyone have one lying around or is there a service that you can send your old sump off to and have the work done? Any other ideas?
  12. Well, I was given lots of sound practical advice and guidance but managed to forget it all and buy the first one I saw. Doh! Saying that, I did take into account a lot of what was said and think I've got a good deal. It's also a part built as well so I wont feel such a fraud when I'm finally driving it. What did we get? Well, It's a 2b that's been a few years in construction from new. Cosmetically it's a little scrappy and some of the finishing will need a bit of TLC to round off and polish up. Mechanically it's pretty sound with a 2l Pinto with the 205 block (pre sump modified ) The suspension, brakes and wiring is all as it should be and the owner has confirmed that the camber has been set. Frame has some Hammerite chips and rust rub marks but I'm not worried about that just yet. Would rather get the car mechanically finished and through the SVA before worrying about Cosmetics as I have all winter. Seats need fixing in, trim everywhere, throttle cable, boot finishing etc and a few panels inside. After that, we just have some fixing up to do and getting ready for the SVA. I think if I allow 25 hours to finish it and then work on the premise I'm about 400% out, we should be just about right. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k177/kno.../CIMG0843-1.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k177/kno...od/CIMG0838.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k177/kno...od/CIMG0841.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k177/kno...od/CIMG0844.jpg

See what you mean. Where is this going to end? It's dangerous talking into a phone while driving. I'm sure it's also dangerous trying to light a fag, change radion channels, scratch your bum and pick your nose (preferably not with the same finger) Yet, someone that drives with no documentation whatsoever in a dangerous car, is not penalised whereas someone that has made every opportunity to comply with the law is. And I don't even read the Daily Mail (Rant over)

Well, I paid a lot of money to have a Blue Tooth stereo fitted to mu car. You still need to press a button to activate it before you can use voice activation and another to terminate the call. Can't see how this would work otherwise as the line would stay connected? As more and more controls get built into the steering wheel, at least you wont have to take your hands off to press the button on the Stereo.

I can't see how you can operate a Mobile device without touching it. It's OK for incoming calls as the phone can be set to automatically answer and the other person will terminate the call. However, it's impossible if you want to make the call to do this hands-free? This particular case is a pretty good example of why a lot of people have little consideration for Transport policy and the police that enforce it. I'm sorry for the Coppers that do a good job out there but what sort of damage do officers like this one do? Every day, I see a vast number of people driving with a phone plastered to their ear. Yet, someone uses a Hands Free kit and some little Jobsworth gets all officious with him. If we wanted to do more for road safety, we would be getting more unlicensed, untaxed, uninsured and un-MOT'd cars off the road. I was watching one of these "Cops" programs last night where they pulled over a Heroin Addict with a bashed and dented car, no Tax, Insurance, Licence and MOT and amongst over things, 2 completely bald tyres. I mean racing slicks! Yet, they take no action about the car and nick him for Heroin possession. Now, if he smokes heroin, he might kill himself but if he ploughs into a group of pedestrians, the result would be catastrophic. They caught him again a couple of weeks later and gave him a producer as the car was in the same state. Whats the point. These cars should be removed and if not claimed with all the relevant documents, destroyed. Yet, that wont happen because a smack head doesn't have any money to fine him whereas a law abiding member of the public that has gone to the effort of trying to the best of his ability to comply with the law can pay £60. Cynical? Moi?
  16. Went for more than I wanted to pay. Not too unhappy as there seems to be plenty around. Don't mind waiting for Donny but have a few options on the go. Just a case of being patient. Not a virtue I posess
  17. Does that make you Rodders or Trigger. "I got this award for having the same broom for ............."
  18. Great advice! For a first project, I would want something that was road legal and together as I've never worked on a car before. It's going to be a bit of a sharp learning curve as it is but one I'm looking forward to. However, saying that, I'm not a complete duffer in the mechanical department. I have rebuilt quite a few bikes from a GP100 to a GPZ750 Turbo. I'm pretty clued up on the theory but have no practical experience of working with cars whatsoever. Wiring and body work I shouldn't have too much trouble with or changing mechanical parts such as wheels, brakes, bleeding, bearings, bushes etc. I'm probably going to struggle with working on a 4 stroke engine and setting up the car for different conditions but that's just a case of getting on with it and seeing how it works. So, if I can get a relatively sound mechanical model that I can play about with, learn how it all works and to set it up, then in a year or two I might take the plunge of starting from scratch. What I like about Donny is that there will probably be some friendly faces along to give me some advice and ensure I'm not buying a pup. I'll go out looking for a Robin Hood and end up with a Robin Reliant
  19. I'm not going for that one off eBay. It's up to 1750 already with a few hours to go and as you boys have said, there will be other cars out there that may be more of a bargain. Had some good advice to go up to Donny next month with some readies in my pocket so will keep looking but if not, might pop up there. Anyway, give me a shout if anyone comes across anything. Cheers
  20. Not particularly accurate. I checked all the alerts around the M25 and not one of them said anything about Fog. You can guarantee that any time of the year and at any time of day, there will always be an overhead gantry from Junction 6 to 10 warning of Fog p: For some reason, that section always seems to be to pot. The amount of times it warns of queues, moves everyone over to a single lane and then announces national speed limit again when there's nothing there is ridiculous. Anyone have any idea why this is?
  21. Sorry for dragging it back to the subject but what are sections 3 and 34? According to the passage quoted by Enforcer (I promise not to speed down the M54 again), if someone is driving in an anti-social manner, they have to be committing one of these offences as well before their car can be seized or whatever? Can someone clarify this for me. Having a Blonde day.

    Nurburgring

What sort of Lap time do you expect from the ring. Didn't Clarkson do it in 12 mins in that Diesel Jag? You can't let old JC beat you
  23. Or if you want something a little more sophisticated... http://www.marineturbine.com/motorsports.asp
  24. BTW, does anyone have any knowledge or advice on this car? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A%3AIT&rd=1 I appreciate that the Triumph engine may be a bit low on power and the gearbox is shot but I may try and get a Sierra unit in there over the Winter. Is this a good vehicle to start on or should I take my friends advice and spend a little more on a newer SS model? Any advice would be appreciated.
  25. Thanks Dredd and Chris. I look forward to meeting you soon. I'm just outside Guildford so if either of you fancy a beer (before the weather turns sub-zero again) then give me a bell. I'm trying to get my head around it all now and figure out what I should be looking for so any advice would be appreciated. KO
