    Tyre Pressures

Pete, does that mean the police know what pressure tyres we should be running even if nobody else does? I run about 18 front and 22 rears which is fine for me. Peter
  2. I had the same problem on my series 1 and used a thin bead of silicon sealant, but I expect the Comma stuff will work and not show. Peter

    Suspension

Re. the springs, if you have the inboard shocker/spring arrangement the original springs were usually red in colour and about 180lb/in rating. You may find it marked on the end of the spring but to see it the spring needs to be removed. I have gone down to 120lb/in springs which used to be black in the catalogue but when I bought them last year from RHE they were red as well, a new supplier apparently. The car is much better with the softer springs, some people go lower I would think 100 would be the minimum. Concerning the rad, you could fit it in the nose which helps but I found an improvement to be fitting on extra louvre in the bonnet (exhaust) side to let the hot air out. Peter.
  4. Mr. Purple, a lot of people just use stick on plates and get away with it, including an ex MOT inspector who I met at a recent meeting but I can't remember his name. I have a conventional plate loosely mounted under the nose cone which gets bashed a lot. Peter.

    Mixture

Simon I am not sure about that carb and forgive me if this is silly but have you got a flat filter fitted on it which does not allow the choke plates to open up? Try running the car without a filter first, this will also allow you to see if the choke is coming off as it warms up, before you start major work on the carb. Peter.

    Cam Pulley

I did see a Hoodie at Donington who had gone into a gravel trap, and gravel had gone into the bottom pulley causing the timing to slip. That is the only time I knew of a problem. Peter

    Cam Pulley

Nick I think the drilling is intended to balance it a bit but don't worry about matching the pulley to the cam. The same pulley is also used for the jackshaft. Why not paint both pulleys and just leave off the belt cover altogether as long as you keep your fingers out of the way! Peter.
  8. Any one know of a source for the early Sierra front engine mount rubber unit? I just need 1 but Ford no longer do them neither do my local factors and there doesn't seem to be any local breakers with early cars in them. Thanks Peter.

    Cylinder Heads

Hi Daz, I am not sure about the Solex 38 but I have a Webber DGAS which is fitted with a LOVE diaphragm, not all have them. No you are wrong it stands for low vacuum enrichment! What it does is as the engine is about to slow right down and the vacuum drops in the manifold it pumps in a big squirt of fuel like the accelerator pump (it looks a bit like it too on the side of the carb with a vacuum line to the base of the carb) and off the engine goes again. It could be this causing the hunting so disconnect it as you should not need it anyway, block up the tube, and then set up the slow running as usual. Peter p.s. the main jets will probably be too big as well as I expect the carb is from a 2.8 or 3.0

    Who Is A Dipstick?

Andy, mine is held in with a nice blob of Araldite. The dipstick tube that is, in case Chris A reads this. Peter
