 Was at Donny today and have to say lovely to meet some of you - I have been to several other shows but kept really quiet (NOT) now Boyz - has any of you been converted from sliding pillars (OK DaveW sliding pillocks) to the R-S Jigtech lot???? I met RS Jigtech's lot today and was told that they have fitted over (BOLD TYPE HERE) 100 conversions to RH's. I find this incredible as I couldn't see one example - so where are you - all of these Hoodie Boys. I would like to know if there is a difference, if I am going in the right direction re the bump steer?

Waiting on lots of replies hopefully

Irene

Hello Irene.

It sounds a bit of a high figure (100) but may be possible.

I converted my 2B over to wishbone last winter :D but not with RSjigtech.

Several have now done this convertion some using the system from STS who were brought out by Rsjigtech.and some like myself have designed there own system. :o

I've been so impressed by the change it has made to my car inproved handling, braking, steering lock. :D

Rsjigtec look like they do a good convertion :) but at a price :( :( :(

Hi Irene,

I also had a long chat with RS Jigtec at Donnington, although it went a bit quiet when they told me the price for supply and fitting.

£452 supply only, £650 fitted (inc the dreaded VAT) starts becoming an expensive conversion - although I suspect that at least for myself it is perhaps time to bite the bullet and convert to wishbones.

RS Jigtec I found were very helpful in responding to questions raised - and even offered to collect the car for a nominal charge.

Suspect that at this rate I will never me able to afford a SS exhaust system.

Regards

All is not yet lost.

You could make your own from plans in Ron Champion's book "build a car for less than £250 - and race it".

You could buy them from Richard - his lolocost wishbone set is only £110 (maybe plus VAT). These aren't on his lolocost site anymore but I bet he'd do 'em as 2B spares. Can't hurt to ask.... You'll need a set of Nylaspa bushes, crush tubes and the Sierra upright dummy McPherson strut adapter plus the shockers of course. Give Richard a ring and I bet he'll sort you out with a deal.

Or get 'em from somewhere else like MK Engineering.

Of course, you have to work out how to mount them onto your chassis, but this is easy enough I reckon - and if you have no welding kit you can get someone in to do it for you. It cannot possibly cost £650 if you do it yourself, even if you buy the wishbones in.

Sorry if this is way off the mark and I don't want to suggest more work for anyone here, but....................

isn't this something the 'Owners Club' (I know the club is a collection of members) could look at - negotiating a better price for Members in return perhaps for a link from the main web site and allowing RS Jigtec (or other suppliers) to write a small 'advertising feature' outlining their services and the benefits ?

Just a suggestion and I'm quite prepared to be towed round the yard behind a Hood wearing little more than tar and feathers

Hi Steve.

I can see where your coming from but how much discount would we expect?

I would say 10% :) or if lucky 20%. This would give a saving of £65 or £130. <_<

This still makes the price over £500. :(

Granted I had to do a lot of work, but I converted my beast over to wishbones last winter for a grand total of £300 including all parts and welding services :)

Jon.

Dont just think you can buy Ron Champion or other wishbones and fit them they have to be changed some much that it easier to make them from scratch.

There are a lot of other hoodies out there now that will allow you to copy there design and measure for dimensions ect.

I think its not unreasonable to suggest that RHE bones might fit. I suggested the Locost book because it gives a good idea of how to make your own. In either case you'd surely have to fabricate your own mounts so if you bought some in you could design your mounts around them.

You're quite right about the costs of building them yourself - and I bet you felt pretty pleased when you'd finished them, eh?

Have you got a picture you could post? I'm quite interested to see how they compare to the DOHC ones - there's a picture on my website...

Hi Guys ,

I converted to wishbones last winter with the help of Tony the Tank its a totaly different car,to quote Tony " It will go from being an escort to Rolls Royce " ,I looked at using the robinhood wishbones but they wont fit as the 2b tapers in ,I made mine from Tonys Jigs and even though I copied his I still had to make them fit the chassis with tweeking here and there ,I fitted spax dampers with 275lb springs and used the original robinhood rack, but changed the rack ends to sierra .

The conversion is on my site and big Jim also has tonys conversion on the Northwest web site.

Jon.

I haven't forgot about the photos.

I took about sixty when I did the convertion but I cant find the disk with them on.

So I will take some of the car as it is now when I get time.
