Flushing Out A Gearbox?

Snapperpaul

Recommended Posts

The V6 box that i have converted to fit the pinto was full of thick green sludgy oil, i think it had been standing upright in the scrappers for a while, and whilst i have drained all i can out of it and replace it with new stuff, should i realy take the top off and flush it out some how?

And if i do flush it out, what do i use?

I have heard great things about cillit bang so you could use that. Boom Boom.

Parafin bath is easiest for the bellhousing. I bought a plastic underbed storage bin, big rectangular box and it proved fine with parafin in it. Washed all sorts in there. Dare say you could do the gearbox internals if you took the top cover off and drained the box well afterwards before refilling with oil.
