You're probably tightening it up too much. Figer pressure then a littlebit more on each boltis allthat it takes.

Or the 20+ year old bent tin rocker cover is not very flat anymore. Try flattening the flange gently using a wooden mallet and a flat steel block. Don't use a steel hammer as you will stretch the metal and make it worse.

Its a pinto, i didnt over tighten it but the cover is pretty flat. Ive been offered a rubber gasket for a tenner. Should i get this or just get another cork gasket and fit it with blue hylomar this time?

Hylomar is the best solution for Pinto rocker gaskets, but don't over do it and let it go tackie before fitting the rocker to the head and tighten evenly.

 

Always make sure that the surfaces are clean and free of oil, wipe them down with a small amount of adhesive/solvent remover, this dry's instantly, works a treat.
