Going to look at a Y reg 2 litre GL tommorow.

Genuine 95,000 miles but only a 4 speed box (not too worried about that though). I just need to know if this will be a Pinto engine?

Cheers.

I put a link on the forsale pages to one i found on the Westfield site, 2.0ltr inj but it's down south.

Guy said £150, but that was before his wife got fedup of looking at it on there drive.

could be worth a look for someone in the area

Cheers guys.

I'll probably go for it then as the guy only wants £75 (with full history!!!). With what I save I can get hold of a decent 5-speed box and use that.

Will let you know how it goes tommorow.

Hi Simon

If u get the Y reg the wiring loom will be a simple one. :)

Hardly anything to cut out and yes five speed boxes are easy to pick up. :D

But have you told RH witch box u will be using because the 4/5 speed props r different ;)

Nope. Haven't told them and wasn't aware that I needed to - Oops!

I presume that I can use the box and propshaft from a later Sierra? say an H-REG or something?

Are the gearbox mounts the same on later models?

Maybe a 4 speed would'nt be such a bad idea then.

Just been on the 'LoCost' site and quite a few people on there opt for the 4 speed too.

I don't plan on doing much motorway driving and my every day car is a Pug 1.6 GTi. That revs @4000rpm @70mph in 5th, so should be about the same.

Cheers

Sorted!

Picked up the car tonight and it's mint.

The 90,000 miles is genuine and all old MOT's are present. Also has full service history up until about 10,000 miles ago.

No major oil leaks from engine or g/box however the electrics leave a little to be desired.

Apart from that, car still pulls hard from low revs and there's no smoke at idle or on the overrun.

I'm chuffed with it and will start stripping it at the weekend (after the MOT on my everyday car is over and done with).

Cheers for all the advice.

Just spoke to RHE.

They have to supply extra fitting brackets for the 4 speed box and I will have to measure the propshaft. If it measures 30 then I'll need another one to be made up by them.

Going to compression test the motor tonight before I start stripping it at the weekend.
