you can save 9.5kg on a pinto head by going down the aluminium head way, this costs £2875!

Yes you can and also an alloyblock to go with it, this is able to take 96 mm bore liners so with along stroke crank [steel] and some Acralite pistons and a few other odds and sods you can build aprobably the ultimate pinto Istopped adding it up when Igot to 20,000quid but you can always dream can't you ? bye for now mower man  8P :cray: :good:

I like my little Toyota screamer.....

DSC01078-1.jpg

35 mpg on twin 40's on a nice ride out

revs to 8500 :o but then 20 mpg.

However the conversion was just shy of 3K,by the time we bought omex, exhaust, webers etc.

WORTH IT ????????oh yes every penny :o :o :o

this looks very interesting where do you start, Ive no car or kit yet.

The engine "kit" came from Raw Engineering in Hereford.

The engine came with a clutch for the type nine box.

They also supplied a bell housing for the type nine, Exhaust system that needed cutting and rewelding cause it didn't quite fit well enough,

twin Webers and manifold, Omex ECU and loom, 36-1 trigger wheel.

Realy pleased with it, although like I said ealier just shy of 3K by the time we had finished :o

It was a birthday pressie though. :D

You are joking right? You could spend 20k on a pinto? You could probably get Dr Emhet Brown's nuclear reactor thingy from BTTF for less, and it'll be a darn sight quicker :D :D :D

If I was building from new, I would go zetec route. The scrappers would be full of them

yesterday visited salvage yard thought I'd walked onto secondhand car lot, they were driving them in off trailer, depoluting metal seperating then off to crusher. Saw 28k ford fiesta full service history on F plate v good car but must be crushed thats scrappage proceedure. Asked about sierra's, his reply was they are not gonna sell many kits.

Yes it is a joke ,but all the bits are available from Burton I did the sums as a way of proving to a mate how much money you could spend if you were daft enough!! If I had that sort of money to blow it would be on an engine set up these from these guys H1 v8 inthe states 2.7 ltr 32 valve twin ohc v8,giving 320 bhp @around 10,000 rpm but thats a dream too look the site up when you have afew mins spare it is very interesting!!!! Hi Chelboy

Pre IVA you have to decide whether you want to have a new plate, an age related one or a Q plate.

Q is supposed to be less desireable but you will get this if you haven't acrued enough evidence that your build is "New" or age related. Not all parts need to be new (or reconditioned) but the vast majority must be.

Age related is when you use a Donor vehicle and you can demonstrate that again, most parts are from a single age related vehicle apart from new parts with supporting documentation (Old V5, Vin plates, new receipts etc).

If you can't demonstrate either of those, then you get a Q plate.

However, if you want to use a single Donor for the major componants including a brand new engine, you will get an age related plate.

After IVA you can pretty much do what you want.

Hope that helps.

I looked into the Zetec and came to the following conclusions:

Whilst £750 seemed a good buy you need so much more to complete the engine, shortened alloy sump, ECU, throttle bodies, i worked out about £2500.00 to do it right. I would then probably want to upgrade the brakes to rear discs, and I would have a 175 BHP engine in a car weighing about 1/2 ton so the car would not match my level of skill as a driver. I also wanted a simpler engine I could fix at the side of the road and one that looked nicer in the engine bay (Zetecs are so dull looking). I went for a 2.0 Pinto out of a Capri, seen running, complete outside re-build, new cam cover, all new bolts, washers, new water pump, shortened sump, Aldon performance distributor, Zinc plated pulleys, power pulley. Set of Twin Weber 40's professionally re-built by Pete Bowley at UK Carbs. I think once this is in my lightweight Zero it will provide enough of a smile for the considerable future. Also looks really good. Cost £1000.

See picture.

hi new to kit cars and at present got my head stuck in haynes manual for sierra trying understand what bits i need and how to extract them, glad you raised issue as others have as I was becoming concerned that pinot was no longer an option with any future. Like yourself im not a ripitup guy and will probably do more touring than anything else. I shall watch with interest your progress - based on your engine looks very impressive so far, well done and keep the pics coming.

My pinto bought reconditioned but not run with alloy rs sump and all painted cost me £350 bike carbed it bestek ignition vernier etc 130bhp(dyno) total cost about a £1000 next winter if money allows going the zetec route as i want more power and to extract any more decent power gains from the pinto will cost silly money prob would not be far short of doing a zetec conversion (selling the set up i have)

Pinto is simple and old school but zetec is more powerfull and will prob last longer when being abused

Dan (saving hard for zetec with jenvie's etc)

Gavinc has a few Sierras some of which he is stripping out and putting on pallets.

Ready stripped with VIN plate and V5.

He is at the moment struggling after a house fire if anyone is interested let me know and i will see how things are with him.
