Wow, great write up, although I'm beginning to wish I'd not read it now.

You sound like all the fixes are easily achievable, and the list doesn't sound too bad.

Well done, and good luck with the re-test.

Cheers

Keith

Re-test booked for next week.. So the deadline commeth. ;)

already on with the list, the biggest nightmares are the seats. I've sourced some, but I only have 41cm to play with on the passenger side.

Drivers side fits fine, but as they're fibreglass seats, I can trim a little to get them perfect.

Fun and games ;)

Good luck with the retest Loopy but dont drive to fast or u will be done for littering the highways with pan scourers and if one bounces up and hits someone they could prove lethal . :D

Lol.. Used my modified db killer in the front pipe, and turned my front pipe into a huge slim silencer. The deadening material will not escape ;) plus, I measured 90db without the silencer even fitted, just running the car with just the frontpipe ;)

just got to be careful as it will now build up heat much quicker than before.

And Keith, providing all goes well, I shall call up to leyland, and take a look at your system, as my db killer should fit as long as your sytstem is 51mm external bore. If it's not, let me know the bore.

How did it go Loopy ? Hope all went ok.

My exhaust is a bit smaller than 51mm, (44mm I think). I've had some baffles made, and I'm going to be testing this Sat all being well. I did a quick test last night with wire wool stuffed into the tail pipe and then the baffle, and it's still reading 100dba. I'm wondering if I'm stuffing it up too much.

Thanks

Keith

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply, i spent 1/2 an hour last night writing a post, and I lost it by changing some settings :)

Really, it just summed up the day.

In regards to pass or fail, the car did not make it. As a believer in fate and such, I shall explain the events of the day.

Appointment at 12.30, i have 30 miles to go, I leave at 11am, checked and ready.

At 11.30, the viscous fan fails again. I had locked it up, but it decided it wanted to be free, the engine boiled over. As i learnt from my mistakes last time, i not only pulled up in a garage, but had anti freeze and water with me. I toppped it up, fixed the fan again, and headed on. Quick call to vosa to say i may be late :)

As i hit the M60, travelling at 55mph ish in the slow lane, I get pulled over. :(

What do you think youre doing? asked mr "boys in blue". I explained, and produced my test appointment, and my insurance.

Ah, but you dont have any plates, or trade ones.. or MOT, or TAX or its not even legal!. After a few minutes of diplomatic wrangling, I was told to get off the motorway, as he deemed me a distraction to other road users, and that the fact that it had no plates made me a moving violation. I was then escorted off the motorway under blue lights, and told DO NOT come back on here, as he will be checking. Use the sideroads.! So from junction 18, to junction 21 in oldham, no sat nav, and he didnt give directions. Thanks! I set off.

After consulting the iphone, and getting a few towns to head for, I eventually found my way to the business park near VOSA testcentre. As i had been driving, i noticed my steering self centering had been losing effect, and that the handling had been getting different. This was also, i thought, down to the rain. I had never driven in the rain in this car.

On the slip lane to the test centre, It ran out of petrol. Nowhere near a garage. Cock.. I had been too busy looking at directions, and wipeing my visor, i didnt see the lights.

By now, I was getting very fed up. :) Then, more boys in blue. These ones were missing the poles in there asses, and helped me push the car to a safer location to await recovery. By now it was almost 2hrs past my appointment. Too late!

Whilst we were pushing the car, i noticed the camber on the front wheels.. And the tracking, and then noticed the catastrophic suspension pivot faliure on both sides! S7 owners - WARNING!

The top front wishbone mointing points had not cracked, but bent up and into the car.

Definately not taking this now :( So, after phoning the AA, they dropped the next bombshell.

Hi, can i take your AA membership number please, yes, and the registration number of the vehicle.. That you cant have until ive passed this test, and the dvla sort there stuff out.

Ah, in that case we cant help.! It has to have a registration number. But, I replied, I am the member, not the car?.. Not in this case. We will send someone to push it to a safer place, and thats it.!

Eventually, a works contact tows me home for £60 done. After waiting 4 hrs for him to arrive, then getting in at 7.30pm.. very tired, and wet.

At least i didnt have to pay the retest fee. :)

If i had not seen the faliure of the suspension, and VOSA had, then S7's would be as good as deleted from IVA testing unless the weakpoint is strengthened.

I will post the pictures in the chassis section.

The retest will be a week or two. Wont take long to sort! Every breakage is an excuse to modify, and improve. :)
