Rivets

ZeroKnowledge

does anyone know how to remove the plastic film from ally panels after its been riveted.

previuos owner has done all the riveting without removing plastic and its leaving "snots" when I pull the plastic off.

tried cutting it off but it always leaves a scratch on the ally.

tried heat but just makes it more snotty.

Any ideas ???

Cheers Paul

Well that was a smart thing to do by them wasn't it!!!!

Probably suggest drilling them out and redoing it but I am sure someone will have a more usefull idea!

Cheers

I was hoping for a liquid that would dissolve the plastic but not mark the ally :help:

You could try petrol or similar, but to be honest, i'd have to agree with

the comments above unfortunately, i.e... drill out and replace them. :cray:

If the previous owner/ builder didn't have enough foresight to locally remove the plastic

prior to riveting i'd also check the panels have been fitted using Sikaflex or similar??

If not, i'd wholly recommend removing them entirely and starting from scratch, you then know

it's being assembled correctly. :good:

if you do manage to chemically 'melt/dissolve' the laser peel, how are you going to get out the resultant mush that will get left behind, trapped behind the rivet head?

Just worried you might end up with a bigger mess than you've been left with already????

Drill em' out and re-rivet, it's the only proper way to do it is my opinion.

Regards, :hi:
