evening all,can anyone recommend a radiator to fit 2B wishbone which will be man enough to cool a rover v8? Or a good rad maker within easy towing distance of north wales?

mark 1 cooling system using seat rad looks great but simply cannot flow enough coolant and the hoses collapse

above about 2k rpm.

thanks

I had one made in Aluminium to suit the space I had. But I think the Co I used is no longer trading.

It has a baffle in it to make sure the water goes through all the rad. If it is in the front of the nose cone and it is cowled then it will cool the V no probs

HI Dave

i would say it depends on budget! As Tim said if you can find an ally radiator manufacturer (theres alisport i think in cannock staffordshire.) I would like to have a custom made rad and headers in the future.

What i wanted to do was replace the cortina rad i had fitted from robin hood , coolman rad, with the same rad but uprated.

I went through a guy on ebay called boston radiator svs ltd ebay shop dilley3613 radiator specialist. He made me a cortina rad with the biggest cores possible, he called me and we went for 2 huge cores, as opposed to 3 medium cores. He also fitted bigger inlet and outlets for me, all for £130 delivered. But he said he would work with me if it didnt do the job so was very helpful. so all i had to do was bolt it in.

I did need more though!! i cant get a bigger rad in so what i did was fit an extra expansion tank in my firewall 1.5ltrs which gave me enough fluid to keep it cool on the move.i have a 20lb pressure cap on the rad and 15lb in the expoansion tank effectively sealing the rad as its lower than the header tank. In traffic i had 2 fans, which was ok, i;ve just fiited a bigger laguna pusher fan which is huge! so might be better, will let you know!!

thanks gents,as stated in another post i had been to deeside radiators and got measured up and quoted £275

but in spite of having formerly been employed by sercks they appeared to lack any significant knowledge

of "specials"so i am more than a little dubious and given the quote i may as well get an ally one made

it should not cost too much more, radtech cannock is on my list of firms to call i was just hoping for someone a little closer to home.

i went the same route and got a custom made job. could have sourced an actual SD1 rad (but that wont fit in your 2b)

but would rather have a new one. I think mine was done at Grantham rads (but this may now be the same firm as Jase had his made at) £120 quid all in i think. I found them after asking Gardener Douglas who made their rads on the basis that if they are good enough for wealthy cobra owners, cooling massive v8's they'll be good enough for me with a piddling 3.5!

some of the guys on the locost forum suggest polo rads as they are pretty efficient and small i think. a search on there might turn something up

I bought a brand new twin core POLO rad, but I doubt that will do the job. I didnt even bother fitting it for my XE, the Coolman does the job well now its all cowled in, esp. at the bottom of the nose cone.

hi ring richard dilley at boston rads(grantham rads was a branch but now closed) 01205 369555 they do a super cool 3a rad they recently built me a modifyed 1 of these and a small auxillery rad for my cossie 2b they are absolute super stars and real decent people to deal with. they use this rad in their v8 stock cars and they will build you a proper brass rad at very sensible money i cant recommend them highly enough. no i dont have any ties with this company but it just makes a very pleasant change to deal with some very genuine people who arent out to rip you off

hope this helps nick
