Only Running On 3 Cylinders

Recommended Posts

Hi

I seem be one cylinder down. Performance was not so good and it sounded unusual. I checked by feeling the exhaust and the one for the cylinder nearest the air intake is cold.

Had the spark plug out to check for a spark - which was fine. But changed the spark plug just to be on the safe side with the same result.

So I'm guessing the fuel injector is the next thing to check? I'm not that experienced with engines, so not really sure what I should be checking for?! Does anyone have any ideas please?

Cheers

James

Hi James

Never tried it but I remember reading somewhere that if you disconnect the ingnition so no sparks anywhere then take out injector and put in jam jar still connected and switch on you should get some sort of flow.

No doubt someone on here will know alot better so hopefully can advise you better. HTH Ian H

you can put the pointy end of a screwdriver on an injector, and the blunt end to your ear, you can hear if it is firing, and can compare against other injectors.

Cheers Andy

I've had the injector out and tired 12v to it directly - it's kaput. Swapped it with another injector just to double check.

So, hopefully with a new injector I should be up and running again.

For future reference if anyone else has a similar (rover) problem, the guys on the rover tech forum are really helpful.

Thanks for your help

James
