Double Overhead Cam

HI guys

 

My mate has just picked up a factory Marlin for £1500 great condition form a guy he knew.

 

When we have ahd a look it has a double overhead cam engine fitted, but the sump is very low

 

I have no knowledge of this engine but can anyone advise if we cna shorten the sump as I did wiht my old pinto to give it more clearance?

Hi Andy,

 

Yes you can, we did ours with info from Les Welcher / Graham Bowdon (spelling?), when you pop in for your screen you can have a look, engines out on the bench.

just cut off along the web on the side and weld a new plate in and out.

scribe around sump just above web on the one side to keep top pair of holes.

 

Cut around scribed line

 

Make cutout for sump plug and cut bottom plate

get it all welded up

Few jobs left it's currently at a mates house getting a good going over

Did you buy it from gbs and if so how much?

it was £100 exchange from GBS at one of the shows.

still havent fitted it yet, (first winter job)
