One Way Valve ?

Hi guys after some advice.

 

If i leave my car stood for a week or so. It takes ages to start.

Today i noticed that the fuel seems to drain down out of the pipe and inline filter.

So i have to turn the engine over till it pumps it back up.

 

Is there some sort or one way valve to stop this or any other advice

 

car is a pinto with weber dgav and a mechanical fuel pump.

Yes you can. I have one to fit given to me by a friend but that's as far as I can help. Search eBay for non return fuel valve or something like that

you could always put a primer pump on, relay switched using the oil light signal so it stops as soon as the engine starts. just dont run out of oil

im sure i have some one way valves at work, i will try and dig one out for when you come to swap the abs sensor

Is this a mechanical pump or electrical?

 

It sounds like air is leaking back into the fuel lines through the carb jets. It could also be that the fuel in the float bowl evaporates which lowers the needle jet causing the air to get into the fuel lines.

I had the same problem and picked up an inline non return valve from my local motor factor for £5.99

I fitted this at the rear of the car and now the car always starts first time even after standing for weeks.

The pump diaphragm probably needs replacing.

yeah, the mechanical pump should have one built in - if that's on the way out I'd sooner replace that than add another thing in
