New Zero - What Engine To Fit Dilema

Could you offer some advise here please?

I have a 2B SuperSpec that has a JEMS 2.1 Pinto engine in it, goes like rocket and sounds amazing (to be sold at some point soon).

I have ordered a Zero GT... want the newer chassis.

I love the 2.1 Pinto, should I move it to the Zero and buy another half decent replacement and sell the 2B once transferred - or move to a Zetec.

Advise from either side of the fence appreciated.

Thanks

If you like the 2.1 fit that to the zero and just put a 2.0 pinto into the super spec to sell

What would be the performance difference between a well tuned Pinto 2.1 and a Zetec?

Can't remember what kind if figures yours is making, but should be at least equal to a standard zetec. Obvious benefit if the zetec is that you have room for further 'basic tuning' later in if you wanted more power.

If building a new car though I'm of the opinion keep it simple, and keep it old. Easier emissions tests at IVA and moving forward, at MOT as well.

Plump for a 2.0 Duratec engine- readily available, lightweight aluminium head and block, highly tunable.

Mate it to a mazda N7 5 speed gearbox from a 2006 onwards mx5- light, strong and meant for a sports car with great gear changes.

Go for the mx5 chassis to allow use of the pre 2006 mx5 diff as there are many ratio's available including LSD models for a fraction of the price of the old ford units.

Pinto vs Zetec? Driver and suspension set up makes the difference here over the relative bhp difference.

I'm thinking this too, it would also be cheaper to get it on the road.

The Pinto has a weber Dgas on it at the moment, was think of twin weber 45's to give it a kick..

Not sure what power your pinto makes but as a guide my standard 2.0 Zetec with plenum made 167 bhp on the rollers yesterday.

Hi, the 2B is going to Russ in Ollerton to be tuned this Thursday - I will return to you with what it makes.

Will be interesting to compare, thanks for that
