Pinto Identification

First 2 letters of the engine number for the age

Either bolt will do as ford upgraded later on but did not substantially change the Pinto until the 205 block and that was only thicker bore walls, removal of the rear core plug and a oil drain in the block.

Thanks all. Do you know what the NE identifies stamped on the rear flange where the bell housing bolts to the engine? This is definitely the early engine as all main bearings are grooved (all ten halfs) plus the top piston ring is 2mm where as the later engine is 1.6 mm.

Which torq sequence should I use for the head bolts as I have now purchased the later spline bolts? Thanks again

Torque sequence as std basically start in the centre in a clocwise direction work out to the front and rear, either bolt package or head gasket info will give you preload and angular figs they vary somewhat with different h/gaskets follow what info is with parts you use mick
