Remote Oil Filter

Has anyone fitted a remote oil filter to a 2.0L Zetec silver top

On my 2B the steering shaft is uncomfortably close to the filter and I need to get some clearance and I think the easiest solution is to fit a remote oil filter, has anyone any experience of this.

Cheers

John

Yes I fitted a mocal to mine, plumbed the pipe work wrong and ran the engine for too long and basically shagged a cam bearing!!! Make sure you plumb it properly and prime the system before starting-I got too carried away and ruined a perfectly good engine!! The remote filter head isn't small btw and only negligible gains, the 1.8 silvertop zetec escort engine has a different oil pump shape, I think it aims the filter lower towards the floor and as such may give you clearance..... I still had to put another joint in my steering shaft to bypass it.... The blacktop zetec has a totally different oil filter location too so may also allow enough clearance so an engine swap could work out cheaper (my relocation kit cost £130+ from merlin Motorsport, the unions were the bulk of the cost)

Hi John. My engine is not a zeetec but the original 2ltr DOHC from a Sierra. I bought it as a completed car and wanted to fit an oil cooler due to my spirited driving manner. A 16 row cooler kit cost me around £145 and included a temperature control system to cut out the cooler when engine not up to temperature. I was going to fit a separate filter that would have cost me around £45.

As long as you get instructions with the kit, they are easy enough to fit.

If you decide to fit one, before you start your engine, just take out the plug leads from your coil. Loosen the outlet pipe from the filter and turn the engine over until you get oil out of the pipe. Tighten the pipe work and then turn the engine over again until you get oil pressure on the guage. You know the all is good so start the engine and inspect for any leaks.

Hope this is helpful for you. Ken.

Hi John,

When I started fitting my XE I searched out a very small filter that I never used,

because eventually I had enough room to fit the standard XE filter.

http://forum.wscc.co...0xe-oil-filter/

BUT I still have the small one, & ive just checked....it has the same thread as the C104, and the HOF 203.

It measures c. 72mm across the outside of the rubber seal, (almost identical to both the others)

and stands 58mm tall.

Ref no is BOSCH P3141, & the filter itself is marked 0 451 103 141.

If you cant find one, you are welcome to this one.

HTH Bob

Just done some more digging....Fram PH2874 seems to be an alternative

I have a 2l Silvertop with a short oil filter and fits nicely next to the steering column.

Don't know the part number because I just pop down a friendly non-chain auto part store and match it up but if you need a part number I will drive down and get it for you.

Hi John,

the HOF 203 is not a short one.

I still have the short Bosch one that you are welcome to.

Probably best to double check the thread, but my XE adaptor

fits the C104, the HOF203 and the Bosch P3141, so I assume the threads are the same

Cheers, Bob
