Under Dash Wiring

What's everyone used for wiring protection under the scuttle? The loom I have is wrapped in loom tape for this area, which as I understand isn't waterproof, I'm not expecting any water under here but is better to hope for the best plan for the worst and wrap it in amalgamating tape?

Ah thanks for that, I was concerned about water seeping through the tiniest of gaps! My experience with amalgamating tape has been onk so far, but I've only had to remove small bits that had been on for about a month!

Don't worry too much about water as the cables are generally covered in PVC already, so waterproof.

I have seen a demonstration of a electric motor, connected AND running, placed into a glass jar full of water. Nothing happened apart from the motor slightly slowing due to the water resisting the motion.

The second cover is generally considered to be the abrasion resistance cover for the main wiring.

The electrical connections are of such a low resistance compared to the water that the electricity would tend to favour them rather than go through the water.

(Yes, the motor was only a 12 volt for demonstration purposes, but would apply equally to any motor - I am NOT advocating that you try this at home though :) )

Simon.

I had intermittent indicator failure for weeks, until I realised the flasher unit was directly beneath the mearside wiper hole in the scuttle. Wrapped it in a poly bag. Problems carried on until I realised that I was getting condensation inside the bag. So finally, just moved it and problem solved. Probably should have done that first time. :)

Yeah it's through the holes that I'm concerned about, I might seal the around the holes on the inside
