If you get one off the car and remove the spring measure what they call the "open" length and the "closed" length (eg 13" open and 9" closed) that is the size you want.

Poundage on your springs might be etched on one of the spring faces, again the springs come in different diameters usually 1.9" or 2.4 I think.

I, as have others, used Dave at http://www.dampertech.co.uk/ , good guy and knows his Robin Hoods.

Thanks Ian, that couldn't have come at a better time for me. I saw some coil overs on eBay. Full set with springs at £436. Called them and asked how much for two without springs. They sent me an email back and quoted £236.

Try and guess what my reply to them said?

hi guys i need replacement rear shocks for my s3 can anyone give me pointers on what to fit plus where to buy

many thanks from fozzie

You also need to check just what ends you have on yours, some had "eye" type ends, but others had the threaded rod type. Be aware that if you get springs that are too wide, they'll not fit as they're very close to the bodywork. Whilst you're under there, check the piece of angle iron that the spring connects to, and is bolted to the rear end on the squared top of the monocoque "chassis" this will eventually twist and tear out of the "chassis" if not strengthened.

I fitted AVO to my series 3, cost £205 direct from AVO in 2005. Much better than the original RHE supplied ones.

PA160/105 (16" open 10.5" closed)

Stem Top

Poly Bottom (0.5" bolt)

1.9" Spring 10" free length 175lb
