Brake Servo Knackered?

Hi,

can hear air being sucked into the servo by the brake pedal (on the inside of the car). It's definitely not the vacuum pipe as i took that off and checked. If i press the pedal the suction changes.

I am assuming the seal has gone. Can they be repaired or is it a replace job.

P.S Want to keep the servo as i am happy with the braking and used to how it handles before you say ditch it ;)

Servos are a sealed unit, you often find they corrode through around the bottom of the tank where moisture has gathered over the years.

They were fitted to several cars but make sure you get the correct one as there was 2 different ones fitted to the Sierra depending on which master cylinder is fitted

  • 2 weeks later...

managed to get a second hand one off ebay. Think its probably slightly older as mine was a 91 and had a pressed steel powder coated master cylinder the 'new' one has a BZP(?) metal master cylinder.

Doesn't leak air though so thats good :)

just have to bleed the brakes. could probably have split the servo and left the master cylinder but not sure the bolts lined up so easier to leave in one piece. At least i'll have nice new brake fluid.

annoyed as i missed all the sun last week but hoping next week will be dry :)
