Fuel System

First build of my GBS Zero and lots of questions. ..

GBS have sent me a quote of £400 for a 'fuel system kit'. On questioning them, this includes the following :

Pump & filter mounting Kit

Fuel injection Pump

Fuel Pressure Regulator

Swirl pot and mounting bracket

Pipes and various brackets.

Now, I could be wrong but this doesn't seem to be a full kit IMO.

Don't I need another pump and a filter?

Do I need the swirl pot or is there a cheaper alternative?

TIA.

Used parts are cheep.

I bought a Vauxhall hp pump and swirl pot for £25. That's with a guarantee.

What engine are you fitting.

Sometime parts are cheaper from dealerships.

Definately cost less from places like euro car parts.

Not all systems use an lp pump. That is probably why gbs didn't put it on the list with your quotation.

Here's the sort of thing I did...

Forget the regulator for now – use the one that comes with the engine & upgrade later if need be

Here’s a high pressure pump ...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Flutra-External-Fuel-Injection-Pump-High-Pressure-0580254044-Equivalent-FL-044-/181448184455?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a3f279287

And a low pressure one

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SOLID-STATE-ELECTRIC-FUEL-PUMP-FACET-CUBE-TYPE-PETROL-LIFT-PUMP-W-Warranty-/171436731218?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item27ea6ceb52

Filters a fiver for each pump

Rubber mounts for the lp pump about 7 quid

Would advise using a swirl pot...

Under £100 the lot. Leaves you quite a bit for mountings, connectors & fuel lines!!

I should just have you 2 on speed dial :)

Got the list, Richard, which is why i was confused - it has an LP pump, filters but the 'fuel kit' doesn't.

I think I'll do what turnipfarmer says - don't suppose either of you can confirm if the eBay swirl pot will fit the GBS? There's also a 1.5L version which is 200mm high - is that better?

Thanks guys...

You could buy those parts yourself brand new and still save 50% easily. The only thing you want to watch (as I found out the hard way) with the swirl pots is the height (assuming you're putting them under the steering column)

Swirl pot only needs to be 1 litre.

Mine is just like the one on the ebay ad, & I've no height issues.

However it is tucked well into the corner

Be careful with the fuel regulator, you need to set the fuel pressure to what the map you are using was designed for, normally 3 bar if using emerald and jenvey throttle bodies. I'm not sure what the standard ford one on the zetec is set to but it's something to keep at the back of your mind,

I too am looking at my fuel system, you mention a filter for a fiver for each pump. Does that include the high pressure pump? Kitspares has a low pressure filter for that price but the high pressure ones seem much more expensive, both from GBS and eBay. I am guessing they are more expensive for a reason, but not sure if they are overkill or not?
