Steering Rack Extensions - Type?

Hi Guys,

So I have the GBS chassis with the ford Sierra donor parts and have a wishbone conversion as was pillar before hand. The gap from the steering is approx. 75mm each side from memory. I've been onto the kit car spares website who have ford steering rack extension bars, however there are no dimensions.

Would these fit the set up I have? think they are around £32.

Any help greatly appreciated.

If it was originally a "sliding pillar" then the chances are that you have a "Metro" rack.

When I did my wish bone conversion I cut the steering rods and sleeved them and welded them up and put 4 3mm roll pins in each for good measure. HTHs

Hi Ian,

I got the car off a friend who informed me that the car is all Sierra, and thinks it was a B pillar set up originally. He swapped everything over to wishbone for better handling.

I can't confirm the steering rack, however I'm just unsure if there's different threads for different steering racks and there's limited info on the parts website. I'll drop the parts a note to confirm length.

Would rather not weld if possible.

Thanks for the heads up though!

It all depends on whose conversion was used.

RHE/GBS produced their own, but a few other companies also

produced bespoke versions.

Mine for example came from RS Jigtec and the wishbones give a much

wider track and use a standard width Sierra rack.

Other use a MK2 escort rack some with TRE extensions.

Start off by identifying the exact rack you have.

As Ian says, the original rack was a Metro, & that may still be what you have.

Look for any identifying marks on the rack, & google various images.
