so after the rollers on friday i developed a rattle on over run and has got worse the more i drive it and it could be 1 or 2 things

wrong grade oil used

or just a shot engine

my plan is to do a oil and filter change using 20/50 and then go from there as i dnt know what the old owner has put in and as it hasnt run in 4 years

any way while picking up the bits they recomended this stuff

http://lucasoil.com/products/engine-oil-additives/heavy-duty-oil-stabilizer

any one used it ?

I can't see the issue with using Halfords or similar 20w50 its only £20 so if you change every 6months it still won't brake the bank.

Apologies....just spotted the line towards the end saying it can be used in engines.

Anyway, assuming you have a pinto, just use straight forward 20/50

it doesnt need any additives.......

Maybe "they" have a good profit margin on it?

Halfords 20/50 is good stuff; 5L with a pinto oil filter costs £18 with a trade card.

If it's a chattering/whining noise from the rear it will be the diff- mine siezed the crown and pinion together in november. Top it up with oil and see if it gets any better.
